Sh11

Hi folks,

I am lucky to have been born and brought up in Alleppey as this district has the rice bowl of Kerala - Kuttanad, the magnificent backwaters and the Vembanad lake.

SH11 connects the NH47 and SH1 (Main Central Road) from a point 3 kms south of Alleppey town and about 1 km south of Changanacherry. I get to drive on this road often. My cars alternate on this route as my daughter'ss chool is on this road.

With the rainy season coming, I thought I should get some images of the scenes that we get to see.

The photos that I am posting are all mobile phone photos with an HTC phone. My imaginery powers are as poor as my photography.

I will start off with an image taken last year:

These are some of the photos that I took on my last trip down that road. I did not have time to take more shots since I was short of time. Most of the fields are water logged in preparation for the next sowing.

Thanks.

This is also an advanced appreciation message for those who like / dislike and comment on this thread.

I hope to add more as and when I click more. I definitely want to make a series of images of a particular area from sowing to post harvest condition.

I just love the drive down this road! We do regularly drive down this road just to enjoy the scenery. Once took my NRI friend along this road, and he fell totally in love with the place.

Looking forward to more pics. I shall also post some which i had taken in 2006.

Couldn't figure out what the title was about, till I saw the content.

Nice photos that stir up nostalgia. Of all the seasons, monsoon is the most romantic.

Well, shows there is more to Alleppey than just house boats. The bridge is amazing.

These fellas are called varaaal and they are yummuy when cooked properly , the houseboats use a homemade masala to prepare them and the very thought is mouth watering ! You would find these being offered to you as you drive along.

I used to tell my friends that this SH11 is one of the most scenic roads and you have now proved it! More pictures please! Do they still have the 50 paisa toll points? or have they done away with them?

Though it might hurt a little, I am sure at the end it will be sweet with all those nostalgic memories.

Thanks a ton trrk. I had to do couple of airport shuttles on this route while I was on vacation. I was cursing that I forgot my camera. Thanks a lot for the pics.

Btw, I also noticed so many houseboats parked next to Pallathuruthy bridge. Is it some sort of boat hub?
