2 women re-enact 1st Female cross-country drive across America On June 9th, 1909 22year old Alice Ramsey drove from 1930 Broadway in New York City 3,800 miles- to San Francisco. It took her 59 days to be the first woman to drive across America.
Now, in 2009, Emily Anderson, 37,[driver] and Christie Catania, 33,[navigator] will drive across America at 35mph in a 100-year-old car [the same model] a 1909 Maxwell Model DA, fully restored by Anderson’s father, Rich.
Their final destination is the St. James Hotel in San Francisco, California - exactly where the 1909 trip ended. Starting off in New York State, they will go through Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Nevada and end in California.
There will be celebrations along the way to celebrate women's achievements and they also want to spread awareness of Women for Women International, a charity that helps female survivors of war.
One of them is working full-time while travelling. Don't know how?! Anyway, all I can say is - GO GIRLS!
