After that feast, the next day's fare of coffee and toast in the morning tasted insipid.
Towards the end of the trip, we were happy to find an Indian restaurant in Pattaya, run by a Bangladeshi named Shamim. It wasn't otherwise expensive, but the 'roti' cost about 40THB each, and 'parathas' were for 60-75THB! My MIL was mighty happy with food that tasted pretty much as she wanted it... Shamim was also a big help in securing me a taxi for a price lower than the asking rate, to take us back to BKK (with a stopover at the Sriracha Tiger Zoo).
There was another Punjabi restaurant on Shore Road at Pattaya. Spotted another Indian restaurant at a midway lay-by between BKK and Pattaya too.
And there was this Thai 'dhaba' with a very Indian-sounding name, on our way to Chiang Mai. No sign of any Indians or Indian food there...
One more interesting thing I noted: all public places - restaurants, airports, malls, markets, etc. would have a strategically placed set of ashtrays and a sign designating a smoking area. People don't smoke everywhere, and the place stays clean. Er... what happened to that ban on smoking in public places here? No wonder it didn't work here... |
