A magnificent Sambar (Swamp Deer)stag on high alert, though it could not see us when I photographed this one, the shutter sound of my camera was enough (next pic.) for it to takeoff, shows the extreme measures of alertness needed to survive in the forest in the shadow of the Tiger and Panther.

did i hear that you had a brake a fail on your way down from ooty , hope fully it was the Gudalur route , you would have had real trouble if it was the kalahatty route.

The 36 hairpins are really not tolerant to any such failures , may a time have seed vehicles totalled here from either brake or clutch failures.

Where is this dam at Masinagudi is it in the direction of the Singara power generation station ? or is it in the opp direction ?

Hellstar,
Yes you are right about the unforgiving kalahatty route.
Luckily we took the Gudalur route by mistake as we had planned to take the 36 hairpin to save time but missed it, however after the repairs we took the 36 hairpin Kalahatty route.
I have no idea exactly what direction this dam is from Masinagudi, but very close from the main town where the jeep operators are, say about 3-4 kms.

I have no idea how the text and introduction of my first post vanished, I am again working on it.
Regards,

+1 to what hellstar has said, Fazal, boss what happened? Thankfully, nothing really, but it is truly scary.

Fazal, The snaps are magnificent, only, makes one want to make that trip, now. Breathtaking to say the least, F5 all the way, through the day.
