Chikmagalur-Kemmungundi in Monsoon

We, all in office was planning for a weekend trip from a long time but could not start due to various reason. Finally we decide to the date as 11th July. Thanks god day has been decided now the destination has to be fixed. OUr criteria was to enjoy the trip lavishly so didn't want to travel much. After a handful of research we decided the destination to Chikmagalur. Many of them advice not to go as it was raining heavily We decided to travel by my friends SWIFT rather than taking my FUSION as we are only 3 of us.
I started from my house at 11:30PM and picked my friend from his house. Headed towards my friend's house to Mathekeri-Rammaih College. We loaded all our luggage in the car and checked all the doc. Finally around 1:00 AM Me, Binay and Jay started towards Chikmagalur. We lost our way near in tumkur road and went straight till the tool gate instead of taking left to Hassan Route. There is no sign and due to the construction the area is fully messed up. Binay drove till Halebid and stopped for a Tea break. From there I sat behind wheel and reached Chikmagalur around 5:30. Took a decent hotel in IG Road. Took some rest for around 2 Hrs and left the hotel. We headed towards Mullaingiri with out wasting much time. Pic will tell you the rest of our experience.

Next we headed toward Bababudhangiri. Again the drive was really nice. On the way we found a small falls too. We stopped at very small shop for food, as there was not much option left over. There was a small lake inside the Bababudhangiri. By mistake we reached there. Amazing too see such a view. Later again we went toward the falls. Not worth visitng this falls. The cave was closed due to heavy rain and it got damaged :( We started from there by 4PM. By this time every thing is closed there. Road toward this hill are real scary in some point. We came to our hotel in Chkamagalur by 6 PM and end of our first day trip.

My guess is they went to Gaalikere and the falls must be Maanikyadhaara. I had been on a trek to these places.

Btw, where exactly is Hirekolale dam?

Nop it is not on the way to Bababudanagiri. It is, After reaching the Peak if the hills you pay entry fees. Later right side road goes to the falls and left side road goes to this lake. I really don't rem the name.

I will try to add some more pic today night.

The lake is called Gaalikere - 'the windy lake'. It should have been very windy there

Day 2.
We vacate the hotel in the early morning and finshed our breakfast. We started toward Kemengundi VIA Lingadahalli. I dont remember the exact route. It must be NH57. We reached Kalhatti Falls. The falls was ok but fills with lots of alchohol bottle as all other falls. After spending some time we startrd our journey towards Kemmangundi. We reached the pick and paid the entry fees at the gate. The drove inside and went toward the Z-Point. At the last drivable point, we parked the car and strated walking towards the peak of the Kemmangundi. After a shprt walk around 2 KM we reached at the Peak. The pics can tell you the location Almost after an hour we came back near to our Car and surprised to discover some leach in car and on our dress Its a risk to take the car after some point on this peak as the road was almost submerged in water. By this time we was feeling very hungry and we finished our Lunch at Kemmangundi Guest house's hotel. We didn't had much choice.
Later while we was coming back we thought of visiting Habbe Falls but didnt meteralize as we didnt had much time. Finally we reached to Tarikere around 2 PM and returned to Bangalore by 8PM on Sunday.

It would have been more worthwhile if you had visited Hebbe Falls instead of Kallathgiri Falls.

Kallathgiri falls has become a dumpyard. Wherever you set foot, you will see loads of trash (beer bottles, paper plates, waste food etc etc)

Hi Arindam,
Can you please tell me how is road condition, specially for,
1. Chikmagalur - Muliangiri
2. Muliyangiri - Baba BudanGiri
3. Baba Budan - Kemmangundi
4. Kemmangundi - Lingadahalli road junction?
When I travelled last year these sections were in shambles. Is it the same now also? Or has things been improved. Please reply soon as I'm planning for a trip there this weekend and your input will be immensely helpful.
Regards,
