very nice travelogue with lots of lovely pics!

couple of questions doc,

1. why did u choose udupi-agumbe-thirthalli-Harihar-Hubli route instead of the normal NH17: Udupi-Ankola-Yellapur-Hubli?

2. Pls gives us details abt your camera specs and how did u manage to drive and take the photos.

thanks!

the nh17 gets badly damaged during monsoons and gets converted into a moonscape. the internal roads manage to stay quite well due to low traffic.the internal roads are very beautiful.
the agumbe stretch was done as i had not done it before.
the agumbe tirthahalli route was taken to reach nh4 in as little time as possible.
i like to explore the lesser travelled routes.

we started from udupi around 11am and reached kolhapur by 9.30pm
the camera was handled by me and my brother alternatively.
i use a canon powershot 610 i dont have a professional camera. i use the powershot by exploiting whatever features it has to the maximum.

thanks for seeing my travelogue.
if you want any more details about cam/pics/route queries will be glad to share with you.

thanks doc!

I am planning a trip to Manipal on 22nd. While returning (1 May), was thinking about this route. ie via agumbe-shimoga-etc. if u have a detailed log (time and kms on various segments of udupi-hubli) that would be useful.

Also, any reason why did not go from Honnali to Ranibennur straight (saving around 15 kms), but went via Harihar?

thanks for the effort taken to show the route from Udupi to Ranibennur. though I have never travelled on this route, at least on the maps, i am quite well versed with it. My question to you was that there was a direct road from Honnali to Ranibennur (SH-26). But from your notes, it seems to me that you have chosen SH-25 which is Honnali to Harihar, and then to Ranibennur via NH-4. Any particular reason? Is the condition of the SH-26 bad that u chose a route via Harihar?

hi minardi

were you able to see the map that i posted?
im having difficulties in linking maps to teambhp.

well we were told in unequivocal terms that the route to harihar was the best option.since the road was good(it was not so good). the other road was told to be in a bad shape(so we imagined what could be) at honnali itself!!!!

the second calculation was that you gobble up kms on nh4 much faster and much smoother than any district road.idea was to reach nh4 in shortest possible time and in the least possible kms.

the route from nh4 from harihar to ranibennur was not exactly like the nh4 we know as some work on overpasses and asphalting still is continuing apart from some roadbuilding.this stretch has always been a bugbear but we had a reasonably good pass over this stretch.

things improve after haveri and then its a breeze.

also a request to guide me on the maps posting in travelogues if you know it well.
