The trip to Himalayas season has begun. This time I planning a trip to Spiti with my wife and kids. Is May is a good time to do it in Dzire?

All the best to all the drivers heading to Himalayas!

Well, you gotta check the status of traffic movement through the Kunzum Pass if you're planning to come via Manali. You can definitely enter the Spiti valley from Kinnaur though.

Just an update, the roads would be opened upto Rohtang by the end of this week. Need to check the status of the highway elsewhere too.

How child freindly is the route to Spiti valley via Rampur? I am planning to drive with my daughters aged 7 and 3. The trip is scheduled for later part of May.

Route has very poor facilities and ideally, carry food and water along, don't expect anything much to be available after Rampur except in Nako, which has hotels. You can make it from Rampur to Kaza in one day's drive.

Problem area is only in Malling Nullah where occasional landslides block the road, be prepared for some dislocation there. If going towards Kaza, you can always return to Nako, but if coming from Kaza side, no place t go back to except Tabo which is very far back.

No high altitude problem anywhere on the route. Road twists around a lot, so the kids must be mountain road sickness-proof.

A couple of hundred meters from the highest road in the world. On a snowy morning.

One of the lonliest drives I have ever done. No GPS. Not a soul around to tell if we were on the right track. Snowing.

great travelogue Dushmish , seeing a Dzire conquering the snowy roads feels great , your trip being so economical that maruti still produces cars with fantastic milege.
