Add around 3800 for Slime. A fully worthwhile investment, I must say.

Hey buddy, any place to get the tires Slimed in Noida?

Any tire dealer will do, just order slime from speedworks chennai.
I did the same, and got it filled when I got new contis for the safari

Hey Tanveer,

That was an exhilarating trip you have had and an equally amazing description. Have been hooked to your thread right from the first day but refrained myself from posting in between the log.

Going through your log and excellent pics my desire to visit Leh has multiplied manifolds. Saving now to buy a 4x4 for myself :)

Hope to go on this exciting journey soon.

Sorry! what will I call you Rudra da (being myself a bengali) or Rudra Sir, Rudraji, etc.. Your wish will be my preference. Nothing flattery, I just want to learn some basics of photography from you (of course, if you are interested in teaching these poor souls.). And you can wield a lathi, also (for your students). Hope you don't mind.

Thanks & Regards
Joy

I think start doing less difficult trip with your daughter, I am planning to do Spiti trip with my 2.5 yrs old daughter in March or April next year.

And then assess the plan for Leh :)

And just in case you need little inspiration : IS THIS A NEW RECORD - India Travel Forum, BCMTouring.com

That was inspiring! Thanks Rajiv.

Mine went through a snowy Shimla-Chail when she was 6 months old. Basically it's the remoteness of the area which necessitates the super-extra planning for the little ones.

Tanveer / Others: One question - what is slime and its use?

I was using an unlocked mio C320(Windows CE 5.0) unit running oziexplorer CE
This unit has 400MHz arm CPU and can run most mapping apps written for windows CE or windows mobile.
The maps I was using were Openstreetmap+some custom maps I made after surveying google earth terrain

Thanks jaggu!

Except for Marismik La, Kyun Tso, and road to Punguk behind observatory, we did not need 4x4 anywhere.
So you can definitely take the bolero. Its a very capable vehicle, and the non crde should be better than the safari on steep inclines

TSK, how do you upload your GPS tracks to Google Maps ?

Well I did not upload my tracks to google maps.
I just surveyed the region imagery using google earth, created a kml, converted to gpx.
Then I loaded the GPX to the nonimapview which can download openstreetmap maps.
So along with the normal map, there was a red line which was my track.
Something like the first map pics in my map post

The bright red lines are the gpx trails my gps recorded.
Now noni can load any gpx. So before going I made some gpx trails by hand and loaded them along with the openstreetmap, and converted entire to OSM maps using noni.

Thanks for your compliments Anuj.
Our journey is longer because we did some extra places as compared Suman, for example Hanle, Tso Moriri, some failed attempts to places like Kyun Tso(30kms extra here and there), and some 200kms extra in Kashmir.,

Wonderful, great idea. Well done, Tanveer. I cant wait for my Bullet to be delivered. The day it comes, it is off to those mountains for me. Amen.

"The road was nice smooth and inviting. Time to hit the pedal, but beware, as Suman had warned earlier, there are hidden bumps which can launch you into stratosphere.
The light was fading, the body tired, perfect time for a tea break and a few pics"

I loe the way Tanveer writes, and the pictures, well, they speak for themselves... Fantastic thread...

Miles to go before I sleep

There is a God up there after all!!

Wonderful news. clap:

I can spend the entire afternoon ogling at my laptop screen. My little Johnny who takes care of me is furious--it is close on 2 pm and I am refusing to even get up for breakfast.

Great going Tanveer... God bless you.

Tanveer has eaten up some 600 MB already with his travelogue(s). And mounting. Keep it coming in TSK!!:Cheering:

The steed. All gleaming. Look at the tires. Sand roading makes tires shine

Its a lazy saturday morning. So we wake up late around 8ish.
......

A day when we can get to leh around early afternoon, and then waste the whole lovely day in the cramped and congested bylanes.
Or we can choose not to do that.
We can simply go to Pangong Tso again.

No prizes for guessing how long it took for the decision to happen.
9:30am, we are headed eastwards, to that enchanted lake... Again!

CONT.................

History repeats itself, Tanveer. In the first travelogue (of yours) I read, I do clearly remember you and the missus decising to do exactly the same thing, in the same beast, and visiting Rohtang again on the day of your departure!!

Hats off to you and the lady--you are challengers and adventurers indeed.

I dont know if I will ever visit this region or this memorial, so thru your travelouge, I salute their brave spirit and their sacrifice.

Srini

I second that...

Your travelogue is far more than a daring visit to the beautiful yet awesome mountains, with lovely lovely narration and stunning pictures. It is a salute to the spirit of the mountains, of bravery and of all that makes India and Indians stand apart—yet unified as one.

Thanks, Tanveer. :thumbs up

Good going, Tanveer.

Ladakh & Kashmir are extremely beautiful. I hope our Indian Army holds onto these positions, and keep the scenery intact - for the millions of us who are still not fortunate enough to go!

Fantastic narration, great photography, and stunning level of details. Thank you tsk, for sharing this.

Hey guys thanks for your comments. Glad you liked the pics and all

Tanveer, the inevitable question: how is your back now?

Well Indizen, its much better. Just got of physiotherapy last week, and started the exercises. Will visit the ortho next week again.
