Hi All,
Been doing some travelling to nearby places in & around Trivandrum. Thought I would share some pictures of these destinations with you people.

Aazhimala Temple & Adimalathura Beach

Aazhimala temple is located around 20 odd kms from Trivandrum city after Vizhinjam. Aazhimala temple is located on a picturesque place with the sea as its background. Me & my friends first went to the temple & after having "darshan", went for sight seeing along the trail by the side of the temple. This was during August & the sea was a liitle rough & also with the slippery rocks (no beach here) & the warning of the locals not to go close to the sea, we satisfied ourselves by taking photos of the sea.

Adimalathura Beach

From Aazhimala, we went to Adimalathura beach, which is around 5 kms from Aazhimala. Adimalathura beach is a nice, clean beach with not many visitors. We spent about an hour there & then headed back to Trivandrum. Now some photos of Adimalathura Beach.

@gonewithwind - Thanks & yes, around Trivandrum there are lots of places to go for weekend trips or just for spending the evenings.

Valiyathura Pier

This is situated close to Shanghumugham beach & the Airport. Although the structure is in a dilipidated condition you can find people (families included), especially during the weekends here on the pier. There is also a board put up to this effect in front of the entrance to the pier. The locals use the pier for fishing & also to put the catamarans to sea. These pictures were also taken during the monsoon season.

Kumarakovil

Kumarakovil is located 51 kms from Trivandrum in Thuckalay on the way to Kanyakumari. The temple of Lord Muruga is situated here & the temple is built entirely out of stone.

Anchuthengu

Anchuthengu which literally means "five coconut palms" is located around 45 kms from Trivandrum (via Attingal) & around 35 kms if you go via Perumathura. My friend & me both wanted to go to Anchuthengu Fort also so we went via Attingal & Chirayinkeezhu. But we could not get inside the fort as it was past 5 PM when we reached there & the fort is open to visitors till 5 PM only. The Anchuthengu fort is of significant historical importance & was established in 1864 by the British. It was a major disappointment for us not able to get into the fort but that among some other places like the Light house & Mampally Church is for some other time. From there we went to Anchuthengu beach. Here also there were only a handful of people. We literally had the beach to ourselves. The beach is very clean & beautiful. After spending some time for taking photos, we returned to Trivandrum. Now for some photos.

jk, I had given the distance & the places, but you are right, a more detailed description with the details you have mentioned will be more helpful to fellow bhpians from outside Kerala also. I will update that ASAP.

jk, what I wanted with this thread was to give a sort of ready reference to any bhpian/non bhpian who want to know what places to visit in & around Trivandrum, not only the usual touristy fare, but the less explored also. Technopark pix has already been posted in the Tvm Technopark Meet thread.:)

@NuttyNair, good effort there...

But please be aware that while Anchuthengu (Anjengo, the former British protactorate) has great historical importance (esp. the fort) it is NOT an ideal place to visit with your family. It is a secluded fishing village and certainly not a friendly tourist spot for outsiders. :Frustrati

@sandeepmdas - I think you just have to be careful while driving through the village there. I don't know of any incident where the locals have caused trouble to visiting families. If you know of any such incidents, please share them here. From the look of it, they seem to be a lot minding their own business. Also, I went during a week day & yet there were two families with kids & all there. You are right in the sense there are no tourist facilities nearby to the beach. But that is not much of a problem since the place is a throw away from Trivandrum itself.
