A Trip to Darjeeling/ Sikkim from Mumbai

Hi

The plot was hatched 03 months backs. Participants - 03 friends with families. The plan was to visit North East India (by LTC). Once the basic destination was decided, came the fine tuning. After lot of consultations and deliberation and going through travelogues, we finally decided to visit Darjeeling and Gangtok. However one of the friends’ had to drop his plan due to his official commitments. So the final group was 04 adults and 01 kid.

As the D Day was nearing, with no of days (08) and destination decided, the final plan was sealed. The plan was:
Day 1: Reach Darjeeling
Day 2 : Explore Darjeeling
Day 3 : Reach Gangtok
Day 4 : Vist Nathula pass, Changu lake
Day 5 & 6 : Visit Yumthang valley
Day 7 : Local sightseeing in Gangtok
Day 8 : Return to Mumbai

Day 1: We started from home at 0400 hrs and reached airport. We had booked for 0610 flight of AI. We reached airport well in time at 0445. However, courtesy AI & their efficient working mechanism, we were settled in aircraft at 0600. But this was not the end of agony; the flight took of at 0710, as they were waiting for 03 passengers. Anyhow, the ‘motherly touch of airhostess of AI’ did soothen the discomfort. AI really need to improve its mechanism & cabin crew to be called airline of repute.

We landed at Kolkata airport at 1000 hrs, delayed by an hr, and caught the next flight for Bagdogra at 1305, landed at Bagdogra airport at 1405. Thereafter we hired a sumo @ Rs 1800 for Darjeeling. Its 90 kms but took us 04 hrs as the hilly terrain road is not in the best of the conditions. But whatever crib about the road conditions, we may have made was made up by the picturesque view on the way. We reached Darjeeling at 1900 hrs. Well the journey had taken its toll on us, so we had a early dinner and slept off.

PS : 1.Will be posting the pics later on return to Mumbai.
2.Excited about Mumbai-Delhi trip by road on 28/29 Sep 09
