There is a route - from Arsikere you hit Kadur and there is a road from Kadur to C'lore (about 38kms). Dont even think of going by this road, cos its one of the worst roads I've ever seen and driven! That was a coupa years back and from what I heard, the road is still in the same condition

Stick to the Hassan, Belur route ..

Believe it or not. This route was constructed way back by Britishers. This road was good till recently, but now coz of mining lorries + heavy rains it might have gone for a toss cos of this.

Re: Bangalore-Shimoga-Jog Falls

Hey Guys,
I am planning a drive from Bangalore to Shimoga-Sagar-Jog Falls and surrounding places during mid-July (15th - 18th). Can anyone please let me know about the road conditions from (Bangalore to Shimoga and Shimoga to Jog) and if it is ok to drive down there at this time of the year considering the monsoon?
I am planning to take my one year old kid with me.
Your suggestions/comments will be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,

Yeah, the road condition is good as of now all the way till JOG falls.
Just be careful about the Illegal road humps between Tumkur-Arasikere.
They may take you by surprise.

Re: Bangalore-Jog-Kollur-Udipi-Sringeri-Horanadu-Bangalore

Can anyone update on the Bangalore to Kollur (Mookambika) route?

Some candidate routes are:

Bangalore-Tumkur (NH4) – Arasikere – Shimoga (NH 206) – Malur – Thirthahalli (NH13) – Nagara – Nittur – Kollur (approx. 420kms)

Bangalore-Tumkur (NH4) – Arasikere – Shimoga (NH 206) – Ayanur – Ripponpete – Hosanagara – Nagara – Nittur – Kollur (Approx 400 kms)

For the other route (Bangalore-Hassan-Shiradighat-Mangalore-Kollur) I guess the road condition is bad between Hassan and Mangalore.

Want to know the current road conditions, especially after the recent heavy rains.

How will a taxi ride be (Innova with 4 passengers)?

Thanks in advance.

I would recommend route 1 via Tirthahalli which is good and also more pictureque. The road conditions thorugh out is decent.

The ride in innova will be comfortable. No worries.

BTW, is this trip only to Kollur? Since you are going all the way and plan to hire a taxi, why dont you spend some days exploring Malnad? Take a look at this thread.

Re: Bangalore-Jog-Kollur-Udipi-Sringeri-Horanadu-Bangalore

Nice TL Indian Ranger. Reminded me of my visit to Jog falls almost a decade back. In your pics I noticed the volume of water is less when I compare it with my faint memory. Being the monsoon season I was expecting it to be in full flow. Is that the sign of reduction in overall rainfall in that region?

Thank you C300. The journey was done back in 2009 and since then i have not done this route again nor visited these places, hence really do not have the latest update on the waterfront.
