Trip to Poor mans ooty - Yercaud

I am planning to go to Yercaud from Bangalore over the weekend. the popular route is Bangalore -> Salem -> Yercaud.

Did someone try the below route. If yes, need information about the road condition, distance and is it worth the try?

Bangalore->Hosur->Krishnagiri->Dharmapuri->Sivadi->Toppur->Kadiyampatti (Take left towards Danishpet )->yercaud
