Re: Kaas (Maharashtra) -The Plateau of flowers

IMHO in the past couple of years Kaas has become another Khadakwasla/Lonavla type of place when it comes to crowd. Avoid all holidays. Weekdays should be fine.
Mind you, the place is good with or without flowers, have been a regular visitor since the 90s but am hesitant lately.

I am planning a trip to Kaas in next 2 days. Pls can somebody let me know whether the flowers will still be visible at full bloom.

I know i am expecting too much but I heard that this year the bloom is extyended owing to delayed withdrawal of monsoon .

Waiting anxiously.

Kaas flower show is over.

Don't expect much from the area though the area is as green as during sept.
Thoseghar waterfall also may have very little water.
Better, go next year during second half of sept.

Ashish sir - are the flowers around in the month of October as well?

Let's say I am on my way from Kolhapur to Pune, from your experience, how much time should I ration for a visit to Kaas and Thosegar fall?

Thanks.

At kaas, flower bloom period is between 15th sept to 1st oct.
The timings are fixed, so no flowers during August and Oct.

From satara, kaas return will consume at least 4hours plus at least 3 hours for Thoseghar return.
Kaas and Thoseghar are on different routes.

Trip to Kaas (Pune to Kaas) - 8 July 2012

Once again, the weekend arrived and the urge to hit the road surfaced. Quickly decided to head to Kaas as I had heard a lot about the place but never got the chance to visit in my 2.5yrs of stay at Pune.

Quick Information :

Total Kms : 292 Kms [Pune(Kharadi) to Kaas via Satara and return]
Return Total Toll paid : INR 180 [ 2 Tolls : INR 105 and INR 75]
Mileage : 17.7 kmpl as per MID.
Route : Kharadi-Magapatta City-Swargate-Katraj-NH4 towards Bangalore-Wai-Satara (Take a right into the city and go straight)- Take the right road just before you see a tunnel-Kaas. The route via the tunnel will take you to Thoseghar falls.

With this trip I crossed 8000kms mark with my Wind in just about 3 months and 20 days

I will keep the text short and will let the pictures speak for themselves :

Re: Kaas (Maharashtra) -The Plateau of flowers

Btw, the fencing in the photos is part of the new efforts to prevent the place from getting damaged. But, the fencing was stopped due to complaint from locals that movement of animals would be hindered due to the fence.
The latest news is that there is going to be a charge on people visiting the place.
If at all you want to enjoy the flower in peace
- Go 10-15 days AFTER the monsoon
- Go there very early in the morning. The crowds start pouring in by around 10-11 AM

Re: Kaas (Maharashtra) -The Plateau of flowers

Sad to see the fencing work. Its definitely going to hamper the movement of wild animals in the area. I have seen few spotted deers and wild dogs last year.

Lately, the place has become another example of crowdy tourist place loosing its natural charm.

I hope the place gets more attention through the efforts of conserving western ghats as a world heritage site.

Re: Kaas (Maharashtra) -The Plateau of flowers

The news about overcrowding is disturbing. I stopped going to Lonavla since last three years because of the same reason. Kaas is definitely on my radar this year.

Superb pictures. Liked them.

Re: Kaas (Maharashtra) -The Plateau of flowers

According to the previous posts, I presume that the flowers bloom post Sept 15th.

I have never been there but after seeing the lovely images, I am planning to go there as well, on September 20th most probably.

Re: Kaas (Maharashtra) -The Plateau of flowers

Are there any permits to be taken for going to see the Kaas Valley of flowers?

I have never been to Kaas and I am looking forward to visit the place sometime in the next couple of weeks. Any leads to the permits would be really helpful. Any links or pointers?

No permits are required to go up there. Try to visit the place on weekdays. There is typically a mad rush on the weekends. That's what I experienced last year.
