You have great passion for travelling, photography, nature, arts and writing that seems to keep you going at a pace which we could just dream of. I am expecting more such entertaining travelogues from you travel gurus. :Cheering:
Unbelievable travelogue boss. Just you took me to all these destinations and showcased in detail. Spent 3.5 hrs in completing your travelogue. Just wonder what time you must have put in writing this travelogue? Great effort and every penny (70K) spent was worth I guess... Look forward to your comments.

I guess I did spend quite a bit of time on the travelogue... just like the overall experience justified the expenses on the trip; the comments on this thread justify the time & effort that went into it... :)

Thanks for your comments guys. As far as quality of travelogues & pics is concerned, I guess I still have a long way to even catch up with many of the others on this board.

I was fascinated by these huge iron boilers. They are the remains of a water distillation plant from the late 1800s / early 1900s...
Hey Hotstuff, amazing travelouge. It really made me wander into my past. I had been to the Andamans & Nicober about 5-6 yrs back and it still looks very fascinating even after the tsunami.
Btw, the iron boilers at Ross island were not for distillation, they were for keeping the swimming pool warm. The English wanted all the comforts available and so they got these huge boilers designed for their swimming pool (hope u did see them during your visit). The way they made Ross island self sufficient is truly notable.

The cellular jail originally had 7 wings or spokes around the central tower.
Currently one of the wings has been converted to a Govt hospital.
@ Hotstuff first let me thank you for this great thread. I was planning to visit this part of tamil nadu and thanks to this thread and a long holiday now i have made a plan to vist these places. I am planning to start from Blore and got to trichy then to rameshwaram to Madurai to palani and back to bangalore. I would like some info on hotels you stayed in srirangam and madhurai. I think this is one of the best travellogues i have ever read it virtually makes me feel like i am going through the trailer of my trip.

Laluks, I have followed your Ooty thread quite closely... and I am headed for a trip towards that side in early Jan, so I have a ready recocker in your log for what to see, what to expect etc.

Oh, the boilers were for heating the pool? That must have been the heights of luxury at that time. No wonder the island was called Paris of the east or something like that.

Sure Spals, I have included the names of the hotels & the rates we paid in the table on the first page of this log, feel free to send me a PM for any other info.
In most of the important temple towns in TN / AP / KA, there will be plenty of budget hotels / lodges quite close to the main temple, so accomodation will not be a problem at all. Before checking in, just enquire & bargain in a couple of places to figure out the ideal rates.
Two things that can make your stay a lot more comfortable are:
- take your own bedsheets or sleeping bags and towels, so you don't have to worry about the cleanliness of the hotel linen.
- pack a couple of odomos tubes or any other mosquito repellants.
Have a fun trip and don't forget to take lots of pics for your travelogue.
Beautiful pictures and write up as well. Some shots are jaw dropping. Pah! Go on.
This is by far one of the best travellogues that I have read ever.. great going Xinging.
