Swifted : Ooty

Just like we love Goa, we love Ooty. This trip was a long cherished one, and yes we were back in Ooty after a three and half year gap from the previous visit. We visited Ooty in April-May 2006 and now in November 2009. Ooty has not changed much, except her beauty increased much more.

The recent landslides have bled her, left many of her roads to shambles, life affected. But her sheer spirit of staying through, and getting back needs a salute.

People are friendly and helpful as always. They always pardon my broken Tamil and patiently listen to my queries always and give me the answers sometimes in little English or in slow Tamil for me to understand.

This travelogue is dedicated to the spirit of Ooty and the lovely people there.

The trip was a 4 day trip from 27.11.2009 till 30.11.2009.

The route.

Onwards.
Bangalore - Mysore - Nanjangud - Gundulpet - Bandipur - Mudumalai(Thepekadu) - Masinagudi - Ooty. (286 Km)
Started at 03:45AM and reached Kalhatty falls by 08:00AM. After a break of 1 hour, we reached Ooty by 09:15AM, which makes it 4.5 hours driving distance from Bangalore.

Return
Ooty - Gudalur - Mudumalai - Thepekadu - Bandipur - Gundulpet - Nanjangud - Mysore - Bangalore

No. of days: 4
Total Kilometers: 962KM.
Fuel Efficiency : 13.2Kmpl
Stay : Club Mahindra Danish Villa.

Many resorts and home stays have mushroomed by now, but we chose to stay with our Club Mahindra associate property - Zest Danish Villa. The property is small, but adequate for a visit like ours - not to compare with their own Coorg or Goa properties.

Pictures are coming up

Ooty Coonor road is still closed, they have diverted the roads via Lovedale, Ketty to Coonor. Some roads in the diversions are bad, but you always have a road to travel. Kotagiri Ooty, some sections they made it one way.

The way in which the guys are working to clear up the damage deserves a lot of praise. That too in two weeks they have bought many roads usable. Most places are cleared and reinforcements done.
