Thanks. NH17 certainly is usable currently but I still cannot come up with a logical explanation to myself as to why critical NHs leading in and out of Mangalore should keep becoming unmotorable regularly. I would have thought- based on other examples, that NHAI knows a thing or two about roads.

theMag - liked the photos and of course very useful information too. I am planning a S. Konkan + S. Goa + Coastal Karanataka trip few days from now (or rather the plan is to not have any plan this time) and some of the places you went to are on my wish list too.
Good to know NH17 is in decent condition for this drive.
