Nope.. the seat belt is very much there. Look closely. All the passengers in front are belted always.

Absolutely.. The logs compiled by HVK and others are like dictionary. I would say very precise.

But abother thing i noticed is that you could have bypassed Delhi by taking Rewari-Jajjhar-Rohtak-Panipat route provided you were not thinking of a halt in Delhi. The distance is 154 km and the roads are okayish.

I read about the same in sen2009 's thread of Himachal Triabal circuit.
Absolutely..but that road is still not so good as compared to the delhi one, i believe. But then I wanted to go to delhi. Perhaps next time, I would use it

Rahul, I've seen that. But belt position looks abnormal. It's not covering her from left to right. Hence that question.

Anyway, this is not the thread to discuss this topic. Carry on with your write up and pictures.

Chapter 4 (Rishabdeo-Pipali)

Zzz... how much have we covered..? zzz..zzz....zzz...
zzz..zzz.

Pune-Ghodbunder-Manor-Charoti-Talasari-Vapi-Navsari-Surat-Ankleshwar-Bharuch-Karjan-Baroda-Ahmedabad-Himmatnagar-Shamlaji-Khairwara-Rishabdeo ...mmm..

Beep Beep Beep..clang clang I wake up with heavy eyelids irritated around 4:30AM.

"Wake up lazybones, time to go" my wife shrugs me.

After some time, everything makes sense to me. Today is 20th December.

No chai for as the cook will only arrive by 6. We have water and move on.

By 5:30am, its still dark we haul kids into blankets and cozy them in the middle seats and roll out into the thick darkness.

The temperature is around 9 degrees and its sure is shivering cold for us inside the car. After some kms, the car heater shows its magic.

Soon we arrive at a smallish dhaba for a cup of tea around 7am.

Kids have their milk and banana's and after around 45 mins we roll again.

We are driving by udaipur bypass and udaipur airport comes in no time. The roads are empty.

I am so immeresed and absorbed in driving that I forget to click pics only to realise it later on way to chittorgarh.

By 8:18am, we pass by nrynpura toll plaza after shelling out Rs. 55.

After getting confused at the right turn on to Chitorgarh,we decide to gamble it and hit gangrar toll plaza around 8:42. Again a call to HVK helped us immensely.

The straight road is NH8 and the right turn is NH76.

The roads are fabulous & empty. I have a company of a lone Bolero
with some locals in it.

"Give me the camera," I say to my wife as I slip into the side lane on the nh76.

Escape to Gulmarg-p1010020.jpg

After this its just interestingly empty and mind blowing super smooth. I am glad that this route is a part of GQ.

We pass the bhilwara toll plaza at 10:23am by paying Rs. 50

"Hey look," my wife says pointing to the truck and clicking.."Bhilwara is only 16KMS"
"Yes madam," is all i can say .

Escape to Gulmarg-p1010030.jpg

Kishangarh toll plaza rolls by at 12:09. We pay Rs.65 there.

More good roads..

Soon we pass daulatapur, toll plaza at 14:02 by paying Rs.34 & then halt for lunch after passing manohapura toll plaza at 14:19 by paying Rs.41.

After a heavy lunch, i take a nap of 10 mins and get fresh to drive again. I need to drive to Ambala today is what we think.

Wife and kids decide to take nap in the middle seat, so i resume the journey at 90kmph. I wish my safari had that 6th gear

Beautiful Jaipur bypass.

Escape to Gulmarg-p1010035.jpg

We refuel at BPCL Gadota. A very good pump and highly recommended. This pump gave me a FE of 15.8KMPL, when I refill near Jaladhar.
Escape to Gulmarg-20122009003.jpg

Soon we roll by shahjahanpur toll plaza, paying Rs. 85.

As soon as we touch the behror road, there are trucks, trucks and lots of trucks
"God!..A good two lane road with three lanes of trucks ??"
Escape to Gulmarg-20122009004.jpg

Kids and Wife will not wake up for another hour or so it seems. Since I am stuck
in traffic jam. I decide to click pics of beautiful "Sarso ke kheth"

Escape to Gulmarg-p1010040.jpg

Finally, we touch the famed GGN expressway.
"Wow," I say to my wife who is now fully waken up. "Was this there 4 years back??"

Escape to Gulmarg-p1010041.jpg

I pay Rs. 23 at DGSC Ltd Toll plaza km42 at 17:18

Amazing experience on that road.. very well designed.

Next what happens is drama, when I miss the cash line and enter the tagged line.

Shucks what do I do.. everyone is beeping me from behind that guy is santro on my left revving up and inching closer to Not let me in. Then comes a honda city and then behind it comes a brand new temp # AHNC.

I give a wicked smile to my wife, roll down the left window and yank safari to the left lane peacefully

That maneovour, if I had been in a brand new car would have left my heart beating 200BPMS . But then what could I do.

Escape to Gulmarg-p1010042.jpg

"Kitna,?" I ask the toll guy at DGSC ltd toll plaza
"18 and give complete change", come a rude response
"Here take 50/-, i dont have change"
"Ek to change nahi dete ho or dusara toll line kharab kardete ho," he says rudely.
"Haan galti ho gayi sarkar, i should have come to you when i was born to learn tag and untagged lines eh!. Chal jaldi se kaat parchi" I laugh and tell him.
"Here !..grumble grumble.. " he stuffs the change into my hands.

"Thanks Sirjee" and I take off.

I am driving on NCR roads after 4 years now. Somethings have changed and some have not. Still I remember that I need to take a left to go to Azadpur Mandi from Dhaula Kuan.

I confirm this with Tanveer and am happy now . "We should reach ambala by 9 now," cheerfully my wife says.

Soon, we reach Dhaulakuan intersection and take the left exit.

"Oh no, Why is RK PUram showing on the board ahead?" exclaims my wife.

"Huh" I say looking out at the traffic.

"Hehehe...I know you stayed in delhi for 10 years. Who knows roads better than you, Rahul" comes a taunt from my wife.

"Hey.. thats AIIMS intersection, there should be a U turn somewhere?"

Somehow I manage to get back on track to Azadpur Mandi and enter GT road to stop by at a dhaba to have famed "Maakki ki Roti and Sarso ka saag" Its damn cold outside. Temperatures are flying inside the car and outside its cool 10 degrees.

We decide to stop at Karnal tonite and move on. Some kms into GT road a convoy of cars doing very high speed passes from the left and so does a VOLVO. There is little bit of foggy condition now and I decide to stay in the middle lane to be safe.

Soon in the rear view mirror, I see a read beacon coming up a little faster than what I am driving at and then maintains a distance of 20 mtrs or so.

My wife says that they maybe cops. I slow down a little bit so that he can pass.

He does so looking at me and I am amazed.. "An Alto with a RedBeacon ??? I need to move fast and take rest now " I say queitly to my wife.

Soon a big.. i mean very big L&T panipat elevated flyover comes by and we pay atoll of Rs. 20 at l&t panipat elevated corridor plaza.

Its around 9pm now we are entering Karnal. I call up hotels just to find out that they are either too expensive or rooms are not available.
I am near the famous Jhilmil Dhaba and wondering what to do next

"Idea" I call up HVK and ask him his help. He directs me to Pipali tourism bunglow with a phone number. I call them up and confirm a room is indeed available. Then I update HVK about the same and say thanks and move on to Pipali, Kurushetra.

"A friend in need is a friend indeed ~ HVK"

Its 22:38 and I pay a toll of Rs78 at Karnal toll plaza.

Outside its really cold may be 7-8 degrees. Safari's temp sensor confirms this.

By the time I reach pipali, its almost 23:00 hrs. A room rent of Rs. 1500 is
given. Shivering we usher ourselves into the room and call it a day with
instructions to the room boy to deliver tea at 5:30AM sharp.

The drive to jammu now is approx 9 hrs now. God willing

Click... Good night

I must congratulate you for this drive and a beautiful travelogue and pics.
I have been to Pune in my Wagon R and the journey was superb, I have been to Leh too and all that is coming back to my head as I went through reading your logs.
If I knew you then I would have suggested the jaipur, Ratangarh---Pathankot mega highway, it is a superb road and takes off around 4 to 5 hours from the journey.

Thanks for making me so nostalgic.

Dang! you should have called me again from AIIMS. From the ring road, no need for U turn, continue on ring road(do not take noida exit at DND), and eventually via ISBT you would have reached Mukarba Chowk GT road intersection.

Anyways, waiting for the hill drive to start!

I thought so, but then decided against it.
I took a righturn at AIIMS and then a U turn from infront of AIIMS to get back on onto the track. Thanks to major traffic and lost directions, I lost almost 1.5 hrs due to this act.
