Nagarjuna Sagar-Ettipotala falls : Photoblog

Hello Everyone!!
Just been to Nagarjuna sagar Dam and Ettipotala falls last weekend on 9th jan 2010. Had been there earlier too in June, as this time parents are here so decided to show them the place.Must tell you the weather was fantastic. On way to NSD encountered mild rains which made the drive even more worthwhile.
After reaching there it was all fog in the evening and couldn;t see far in the water. It was nice, cold and foggy , a litte experience of winter in Hyderabad.
I have written photoblog as there will be more photos and less of talking by me.
Enjoy the snaps.

We were hoping that we will again savour those fish fries that we loved the last time at Vijay Vihar restaurant. But to our surprise, the rates has been revised upwards for mostly all the food items and portion size reduced. Dad and mom were disappointed!!
Nagarjuna Sagar-Ettipotala falls : Photoblog-img_2337.jpg

This time I made sure I use their swimming pool facility. Dad also pitched in to teach me swimming. After around 45 minutes of splashing water with my hands and leg, I still couldn't make much progress.Tired and breathless, I came out and went to sleep. They also have a small gym there

Manish, AP Tourism should give you a award for the number of times you visit N.Sagar

I thougtht i liked the place and drive to this destination but you in every likelihood beat me too it. Glad to see another nice drive to Sagar and hope you enjoyed with your family.

A few questions :-

Is this your first travelogue, dont recall seeing before one?

Did you enjoy Fish Fry? Pictures?

Look like you got new seat covers? Details please

Keep driving and hope you'll join the next drive meet on Jan 14th.

P.S: Attaching a few pics of Ethipotla falls taken by me on a TBHP Drive last year.

Pandeyji, pointwise reply to your questions below
1. This is just my second time to NSD. Since parents are here, the trip was planned. I bet you must have driven to NSD many more times than me.
2.This is my 2nd travelogue. First one was of Srisailam
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...srisailam.html
though this time i'll also post the pics of NSD that I took on an earlier drive in June 2009.

3.Fish fry this time was a disappointment, they have revised the rate upwards, portion size is reduced, though the fish was fresh and still tastes good.

4.Yeah!! new seat covers, got it during Dussehra in Oct 09. We talked about it when we met at Hillram's sir residence to collect the Tshirt.
Got it done for 4500/- @ sai Bajrang decor in Somajiguda.

5. Drive possible only after january.

and lastly, how come your Fall pics are greener than mine!!hehe..

Nagarjuna Sagar pics never tire us.

BTW, I don't see many pics of the island. Is photography prohibited by ASI?

Stay in Etipottala is quite exciting - I stayed there about 4yrs ago and it actually gets down to being a bit scary. After 9pm or so, they switch off all the lights, incl the ones that illuminate the falls. And there are only 4 cottages, so not much people around as well - there's a security guard at the gate, so that's not a concern, but the sound of the mighty falls in pitch darkness kind of spooks you! The cottages are quite basic - I dont remember a TV, but with Dish TVs these days, they might have been upgraded. You can also trek down to the falls in the morning and have a quick swim - don't go deep as the waters are supposed have crocs floating around!

You can also get to the other side of the falls from where it drops, but am not sure how to get there.

Nazim bhai, there is not much to photograph on the island. Photography is prohibited inside the small museum there where ancient buddha relics are kept.

Thank you Sriram for the details on the stay at Ettipottala. I can imagine how spooky it can become in night.Monkeys can also be scary sometimes, the way they attack for food.Last time when we visited, we were told that there was no proper power backup. This time we again confirmed and they said now they have a proper power backup. I have missed the falls under the lights.Next time I plan to stay at Ettipottala.Only issue can be the parking as it is outside the fenced area.

Every time I feel very happy whenever I see Nagarjuna sagar in travelogues sections , as I am from this particular place , I don’t get a chance to explore as much as one who visits the place ( I think this will happen to most of people who live in tourist places) . Thanks for some cool pix of ’Vihar Resort’ fordmanchau,
Long time ago there was a crocodile enclose and I am not sure of now
Actually we hold a private lodge and hotel there in Nagarjuna Sagar

Don't worry about the parking. If you stay at those cottages, they'll let you park the car inside, post visiting hours, after the crowds have left.

Good pics and great narration, Manish. I know you had a swell time!

While on this topic, I visited the National Geographic Museum this evening, and found a pic of the Nagarjuna Sagar dam under construction. Really felt nostalgic!!!

I'll take a pic next week and post it here, if you don't mind. The museum is on the way from my office to the apartment.

Hi Ravi,
Don't fret over you not being able to enjoy the place. After all you belong to such beautiful place. Go home and have fun.
And can I ask, where exactly is your hotel in Nagarjuna Sagar, pardon my ignorance, but have not noticed any other Resort/hotel other than Vijay Vihar.Do pass on the details and hope we Tbhpians will get good discounts there..

Sriram,
That is a fantastic photograph. Share more, if you can.
So next time I am staying at Ettipottala, now that my concern is addressed.
