Lake como is the 3rd largest lake in Italy. It flows like a inverted Y from the north of Italy to south.

Our Plan for the day

Benvenuti in Italia! Duomo, Lago di Como and much more...-lakecomomap.jpg

I had my colleague from US who also came for this project. We both decided to visit the Lake Como on 16th Jan, Saturday.

Our Drive
Benvenuti in Italia! Duomo, Lago di Como and much more...-img_0627.jpg

Its a one hour drive from our hotel. We started at 10:30am.

Motorway

Took the motorway, paid the Toll and finally reached the city of Como at 11:45am.

Benvenuti A Como

This time the GPS saved us a lot within the city. We drove through the city center. On the way we saw a brewing factor.

A pub, A restaurant with the Brew factory

Stripped down Tree!

We were just trying to find the water and followed the signs for it. Finally we saw the ferrys waiting for picking up people. Assuming we have reached the destination, we now searched for the parking. Parked the car and walked down to the Ferry starting point.

Lines of Trees

The plan was to go to Bellagio, the next beautiful city around the lake. From there to go to two more places called Varenna and Mennagio. Basically there is nothing fancy in this place but a beautiful old european style villas and hotels facing the lake.

It will be a one hour travel in the Hydro-foil to Bellagio. And there was also some tours operated for oen hour. This tour will take you to surrounding places near como in ferry and drop you back to starting point.

Since we have already made up our mind to go to Bellagio, we took the ticket for the location. We had some 25min to spend before we had the Ferry. So, time for a coffee.

And this is a special shot in the coffee/bar.

The moment I see the Ferry, my memories went back to Phi-Phi Island. And today, there is going to be one more memorable Ferry ride in the beautiful lake of the Italy.

Ready to start the Journey

Benvenuti in Italia! Duomo, Lago di Como and much more...-img_0649.jpg

The weather was too much foggy and could not see anything. We were very worried to see that. But we still continued to take the ferry hoping for it to get better.

Ok, the ferry arrives, we board and pick the front two seats for a better view. Yes, hope. Its all hope that we will get the weather better.

From the moment the Ferry started, we were only clicking and clicking. Too many nice views. All the colorful building along the mountains as their backdrop and lake in front.

Random shots on the lake from Ferry

Eventhough it was cloudy and foggy, we were able to get good views. But, if it had been more clear sky, it would have been a bonus.

We pass each stops and after like 20min, the weather completely changed. Sun started shining and everyone on board was happy and cheering out.

Happy???

And ehre we arrive Bellaggio!

Contd...

We reached Bellagio in 50min.

Places to visit

Welcome

Benvenuti in Italia! Duomo, Lago di Como and much more...-img_0723.jpg

Romantic Destination

Benvenuti in Italia! Duomo, Lago di Como and much more...-img_0724.jpg

It was a small hilly town. I was surprised to see all the shops closed over there. Eventhough its a tourist spot, most shops are closed for the weekend. Was wondering what these Europeans really do on weekends. Anywhere you go, they close their business and no where seen.

We had no maps or plans to see. So, just started to take a stroll around the town.

Benvenuti in Italia! Duomo, Lago di Como and much more...-img_0725.jpg

We were attracted by the steps that was leading up to somewhere. We take it and reach the other roads and churches up hill. And finally we reached a point where it was no more way. That was an excellent and romantic location. See it for yourself.

I did see some couples spending time over there. One of them was from Australia. Had a chat and left the place.

We took some pictures of the place (and not the couples!!!) and leave. While we were about to see, we see a UK couple coming to this place. Actually, we met them in the ferry. They started in a opposite direction and hence we said bye to them, walked down here only to see them coming back to this same place.

Then we walk back in search of some restaurant. Finally we found one opened. And we did see bunch of people sitting inside and enjoying lunch. No wonder, this was the only one open and hence all crowds here. And we see the Australian couples in there. We all were smiling each other quoting how small the world is.

By the time we ordered our lunch, we see the same UK couple back in the same restaurant. And everyone around was cheering and smiling when they said, they are following us. yes, indeed a small world. Is n't it?

Then we took another ferry to Varenna. I see that many people take their car in the Ferry to go to the next town across the lake.

Benvenuti in Italia! Duomo, Lago di Como and much more...-img_0753.jpg

When we reached Varenna, we were invited by an beautiful site. It was small and cute. And the cute little thingy was...

Varenna was also a good town to take a stroll. We went around the town and took the next ferry to Menaggio.

Mennagio was actually a bigger city like the Como. We went around the city and visited one of the Church there. Did some shopping around and left for Como in the next Ferry.

This is something I shot in the shop.

Innovative. Isn't it?

And finally a good bye to Mennagio.

It would be good to revisit this places in Summer. Hope to make it. Lets see.

Some random pics of the Milan, Duomo and around.

Benvenuti in Italia! Duomo, Lago di Como and much more...-img_0604.jpg

This 3rd pics is a interesting spot. You had a booth near to this. And they were promoting the new year calender from some Bank or something. And this is given ONLY to couples. And the catch is, you both are suppose to stand on this stage, and do kiss, they take pics and you are "awarded" with one calender.

I was initially laughing at this thinking who will come. But the few minutes it took for me to pass this place made me feel i was wrong. There were almost continuous couples coming, kissing and going with a calender. Interesting. Good to see no "Moral Polic Officeres" present there like in some place of India.
