Your type of holiday - driving + staying in unique hotels - is way better than any international holiday.

well...after the initial fear of seeing hundred's of rats scurrying around, it tends to settle down. The rats didnt come close to humans, they were too busy eating, drinking and making merry!!

Random Pics from the trip

The lake palace hires out this boat to its occupants by the hour (even at night) for sailing in Pichola. Am told the standard charges are around 10K an hour!!

Random Pics from the trip

BOMBS : This is the collection of unexploded pakaistani shells at the Tanot Rai mandir. It is said that Pakistan shelled this place with more than 450 bombs but 90% didnt explode and the rest were ineffective. Not a single life was lost here and the temple didnt suffer a scratch.

Amazing trip ..reminded me so much of my 2009 jan trip to Rajasthan -> Delhi - Jaipur - Jodhpur - Jaisalmer - Bikaner - Mandawa - Delhi. You are so right about staying in heritage Hotels. I spent two nights at Castle Mandawa (got a great deal w/o prior reservations), unforgettable ..the way you are treated, the food, the surroundings, the ambience, simply remarkable. I will try Roopangarh in my next trip.

I just saw this car on a tv programme "Zaika India Ka" hosted by Vinod Dua according to him it is a 1946 manufactured Buick.

By the Way enjoyed your travelogue.

Yes...the beach vacation is the 2nd soap opera. The 3rd melodrama could be either a monsoon break in the ghats or the an excursion to the heart of India. Hold on!!

Yes. Heritage hotels are always the best when it comes to ambeince and service. Roopangarh followed by Nachana Haveli were the best in this trip not that I can find a single flaw in any of the others.
