It's actually the other way round - they add an extra spring leaf on the left side to compensate for the added load of passengers hanging out the doors (and windows at times ). So a fully loaded bus runs level, but an empty bus tilts to the right!

Thanks for the pics. They provide a colorful insight into urban Calcutta ...oops Kolkata. Your astute observations about the city are inspiring.

Maybe I do not have the intellect to understand the pics :-(
I am out of Kolkata for the last two years, however the images in my memory are much better than the ones posted here. Maybe I am too much biased towards the City of Joy. Sorry, no offence meant, but I do not feel nostalgic by seeing these pics.

Tirthankar, some good pictures but felt sad seeing the pictures of poverty. I guess some things never change.

Incidentally, have you ever wondered why most of the buses tilt to the right in a mostly Left-oriented state?? Maybe the technically interested among us would like to take a shot at answering this...

I was about to answer that but you already got your answer below

Thanks. I actually want to make everybody connected to this city nostalgic.

Oh btw was quite surprised to see Volvo's for City Buses. I hope there were no morcha's to protest the bus fares on these. Do these buses run empty always or only during non-peak hours ?

I love calling it Calcutta too, but use Kolkata for better Google searchability
I see a changed Kolkata myself when I look back to the 2008-09 Galleries.

I loved Mishti Doi. Didn't like roshogollas much. Loved Sondesh a lot.
Guess its time to revisit kolkata to tank up.

And when the truck guy mentions follow traffic rules between the photo and the "can't enjoy as much as before" comment below, what trafficking is he actually talking about?

The one I travelled (was in Kolkata for two days last week) had the minm fare printed in A4 sheet, and pasted on windshield

"Maa - Maati - Manoos" all around but no jobs and no money!!

Good one...Nostalgia + Food Choice + Sweets + Bong Beauty + Interesting Places are all fine....But where are the jobs and where is the $$? One can't sustain on just these things (culture and agriculture as 'didi' puts it)...which is why most of the competent workforce is employed by other states (And countries) which offer better livelihood and opportunities!

Guess it will take another 2-3 generations for this state of affairs to change.

Take McD for example - Opened in 1996 in New Delhi. Opened in 2007 in Kolkata. Even Mathura had a McD in 2000 before Kolkata!

Dude I understand all that. You are saying as if I am not struggling to meet my ends here. Its very difficult to earn a dime in Kolkata leave alone a few thousands. But at the end of the day you have a life of bliss here. You just need to focus and re-size your resource implementation. Kolkata has taught me frugality like no other place.
