The snaps of the hotel on Page 2 are very nice. Had to look again to believe that there was indeed a truck inside the hotel !!!

(Dhaba decor !)

Hi Harish. Nice log. Brought some memories of home. Since I belong to Jammu, for me going to the Holy Shrine is an annual affair. One mistake, you have typed Adi Kuwari (as the residing diety is considered perennial virgin) as Ad Kuwait! post #45.

Thats right and in fact the other branch in Karnal has a truck inside it too and the ambience outside is that of a Dhaba with charpai , well , women working , bullock cart etc.

This is Rangla Punjab adjacent to Haveli Jallandhar.

The quality of the photographs are improving as your trip is progressing.

Anyways, you are staying at Rajender Nagar?

Rangla Punjab

1300 Kms drive - 2.5 days - trip to holy shrine of Vaishno Devi-dscn01952028large29.jpg

This is Rangla Punjab. Punjabi Artists perform here in the evenings on the weekend. Charges for Rangla Punjab are Rs 150 per person (buffet). A value for money offer, I would say.

Your place of stay (New Rajender Nagar) is evident from your snaps before starting the journey.

Contd... So we continued our journey ahead from ADH Kuwari on our feet as the ricks were available only after 3 hours.

We decided to more or less walk closely so as to enjoy the yatra and have some fun too. BTW a very interesting incident happened when we were waiting for the rest of the team to reach Adh Kuwari..there was a kid who was kicking some stones and his shoe fell down to a platform about 25 feet below and his mom came requesting us to get the shoe..it was risky as there were no stairs and the only way was to go down with the helpof the construction rods.

So my wifes frieds bro decided to go and get it ( pics attached )..bravo dude.

Soon the rest of the gang came in a decided to take a short break by having water coffee and washing faces etc. Then it was time for some pics and chatting

Caught up the 2 days of posts as I was in a long vacation. What camera did you use? Is it a simple P&S? Some of the pics are not of that good quality, while others shot in broad day light are simply mind blowing.

Few additional info -

Helicopter rides start becoming active at about 3 pm with 2 copters doing up down almost every 2-3 mins

Distance from Ad Kuawri via Himkoti is 5.5 kms and is very flat thus easy to walk

Toilets , drinks stalls , food joints , clinics available in plenty thus causing very little inconveninence.

Nice view of Katra for FREE

Here are few more pics of us having fun on the way..Do feel free to ask for any additional info about the visit to VD as i may be missing on some things obvious to me

Thanks for seeing the TL . i used a nikon coolpix L22 which was recently purchased. I think you missed couple of my comments in previous pages where i did mention that the pics were not coming out too good as i waas just getting used to the features etc of the camera.

Is P&S point and shoot? Well it's got a 4x Zoom and various other features which the modern 12mp camers have.

You might come across some better pics which are yet to come and were shot from the moving car too.

Yes, pics becomes very bad in moving car. No issues.

Could you give some more info on the copter rides? Charges I mean & the time in air & the safety measures? Is that ride carried out by a private player or govt or govt authorized? How many ppl can be boarded on a single trip?

Contd..

After walking for few more kms we decided to take another break where there was a nice place to sit with breath taking view of the hills and helicopters

I'm going to try and finish this TL today itself as the next 2 weeks are busy for me..hope everyone will enjoy it.

Some additional info -

One can hire a pithoo ( a guy who carries your bags and small kids on his shoulder - totally safe )

Chanting Jai Mata Di during the climb is really refreshing and holy.

SMOKING is not allowed on the entire journey and is neither considered holy however people do violate the same. There are checks at regular intervals to scan things like cigs , tobacco , pan etc.

This is the toughtest thing to do as these guys bring the jyot ( flame ) from their homes and it's not supposed to go off till they reach the temple..hats off to them.
