Yes sir, due to the mess between Trichy and Dindigul, i took the Madurai route and am very glad I did, the route I took was all the way delightful to drive. I am sure smooth roads and the amount of time we save justify the extra distance.
But was it easy and clear instructions to get from Trichy-Viralimalai-Madurai road to NH7/NH49 to go to Theni?

Hi Sir,

When we use NH45 and reach Trichy Bypass - the 4-lane road is straight connected to Madurai, the deviation is required only for Dindigul not for Viralimalai road, hence the 4 lane just continues till Madurai.

Now once we reach Madurai, at the first signal to get into City has to be used and there are no sign boards properly placed, however we can ask people and get till the other side of the city, once we reach the other side, sign boards are available. One needs to be careful at Usilampet junction, once reached here, you should be taking a right and not go straight, which we did

Great pictures. There are so many beautiful pictures of picturesque landscapes but I still like the pictures starring the Punto more. Hmm... wonder why.

next day we get up and pack up everything, as usual excellent breakfast to make us smile.

after completing the checkout formalities we head towards boating. By 9:30 we reach the spot and are 2nd in line. We wait for the gates to open, meanwhile one idiot biker comes from left side and tries to squeeze in-between my car and a shop and scratches my left rear door . I am disappointed badly but didn't tell wifey about this as I didn't want her mood to be spoiled.

Gates open and we enjoyed the boating to the core rest of the snaps are our adios to Munnar.

Coming up - Final leg of Thekkady

Your wife hasn't buckled up her life jacket. Not safe saar.
Looking at the men on the trees reminds me of an old tamil song that goes "Kurangilirundhu pirandhavan manidhan" (man evolved (?) from monkeys).

Both the jackets were not buckled, it was just put on when i asked this, he said dont worry. Though the driver was very good and careful even when he did some stunts with our boat.

Yes, that pic of people on tree was something i always laugh about

I was expecting such a comment from you @MX6. Your eyes always looks for weak links; probably you need to be giving NC's rather than fixing them.

@Srikanth & @MX6 - what's so funny on people climbing the trees? I didn't understand the funny part.

That's sad. I've lost some friends this way, who simply drowned. Many of them were expert swimmers. I used to do 20 laps every morning in my college swimming pool ages back. Either I sit in a boat without the jacket (if not available) or buckle up. Fate can kill me. My idiocy shouldn't!

Anyway enough advicing and OTing.

I don't look out for weak links. see my answer to srikanth above. Just that I've lost some friends (and a relative). And the bystanders came with a comment, had he worn the life jacket -

Well, the last person who was socially accepted to clamber on trees was Tarzan. My neice clims trees too. I've climbed trees last when I was 7 or 8 years old. Rest you can guess what my response would be as you know what to expect.

Life Jackets need to be properly buckled. Else its a danger.

Looking at Men on trees I remembered an old quote:

"Man's quest to climb higher and higher in life, proves that his ancestors lived in trees"

We then headed straight towards Thekkady. We had very limited time to reach Periyar House as they have a policy of issuing boating tickets if we only check-in before 3:00 PM.

The moment I come towards Chinnakal I see a huge dense fog, I was very happy about this, but my wifey was scared. Fog just lasted some distance but it was beautiful, we were fast to come down and understood that there is another route which will take us directly to Thekkady instead of going through Bodimettu. We head this way. Road is a absolute delight to drive, its mostly ghats and bends every where. Wifey didnt like the amount of turns and bends we were going through, on the other hand i was enjoying myself

After a superb drive for 3 hrs, we finally reach the Gate at 2:15 PM, get the check-in done and have a fast lunch. Excited boating part ahead -

Sri,
The fourth photo (you guys driving between the fog and following a Indica) its so lovable . I would be DAMAKA for any one driving in this condition with the windows down and playing any favorite track..... How did you feel.... ?

Hey the Crystal on the dashboard is unique ; usually most of them have a Ganesh or some idol...

Yes Aargee, the moment I entered that side of the hills, we saw the fog and everywhere clouds. It was thrilling at the same time very cool to drive through the small roads. Wifey was scared as nothing was visible, but I was certainly enjoying the views.

Nothing scary though after 2-3 kms it was okay and we saw the falls.

Overall a very nice experience which will be remembered for a long time.

"Crystal is more to replicate a Diamond, kept upside down and yes just to be different

Exactly the same Ranjith It was very cool and sheer pleasure, the views were astonishing, Munnar's climax was certainly something we can never forget.
