Update: Tiger Death in Corbett

Another Tiger died in Corbett. This brings the number of tigers dead since 2009 to four in Corbett. According to the authorities, death was due to severe injuries suffered in a nasty territorial fight.

Read all about it here in the Hindustan Times of 1st June, 2011

Am toying with the idea of driving down to Corbett during the last week of Dec. Let's see. Maybe Pithoragarh - Binsar - Corbett - and back.

GD1418 - You seem to have some great experience about roads in this region. Wanted your advice about a road trip from Delhi-Jim Corbett-Joshimath-Lansdowne-Delhi. Can we do this over 7 Days & 6 nights around Christmas spending 2 nights at each location? Someone has indicated that we should not try to cover Jim Corbett to Joshimath in a single day. We plan to travel in an Innova & therefore your advice would be useful. Thanks in advance.

Re: Gurgaon - Jim Corbett - Ranikhet - Gurgaon: The Unsatiated Quest

Delhi to Ramnagar/Jim Corbett is about 5 hour journey (250 kms). Suggest leave Delhi by 4 am so as to reach by 10 am.

A word of caution - this is north and winter sets in resulting in dense fog. Driving gets hampered. May take more time.

Ramnagr/Jim Corbett to Joshimath is doable in a day. I don't know about the current road conditions. It is 370 kms and would take about 8 hours. You have to watch the weather for snowfall etc.

The route would be - Ramnagr - Kaladhungi - Nainital - Almora - Baijnath - Karnaprayag - Chamoli - Joshimath.

Joshimath to Lansdowne is 300 odd kms and would take 6 hours and from Lansdowne to Delhi is 260 kms.

7 days in my opinion is cutting too fine as inclement wetaher conditions might hamper your travel and take more time.

And thanks for the compliment..

Thanks again for your inputs. I was out of town & then busy at work, hence the delay in writing back. Plan to arrive in Delhi next weekend & would use your recommended route for the travel planned.

Road between Nanital - Almora is in bad shape, esp. after Kachi Mandir

Jaxy - How long is this bad stretch? Would you recommend any other route, or a diversion which would avoid this stretch?

it is bad in patches till the Bridge which is 2 way for Almora & Mukteshwar.

there is 1 stretch where whole road has been washed away and part of the mountain has been cut & left without any tarmac being laid out.
Apart from that the road is bad but manageable.
