Jailed in Bangalore -

One windy day in May.... I was hauled up and taken to the Bangalore Central Jail............for no fault of mine!

I was dazed and did not understand a thing..but managed to take some snaps before the warden caught up with me, and took away my cam..

But.. I managed to sneak the SD card away..

to bring you this tale.

The Dhaatu Puppet Festival held in Freedom park - Bangalore, once used to be the Bangalore Central Jail..

Dhaatu does some wonderful programs for kids to help them learn about our culture, our epics -ramayana, mahabharata,Bhagvata thru the medium of theatre & drama. do visit their site, and support the cause.

That is a short and sweet story. thanks for introducing Dhatu and Bangalore central Jail. I had seen this from outside, but now i know what is inside.

Oh for a moment I thought you actually landed in Jail, but then I saw the pics. Well nice story and a nice initiative.

What a deceptive thread. But nice pictures. I never knew Bangalore jail would be so good. Hope the inmates are having a ball

@ Prince. The inmates are having freedom in Jail.

I loved the dhaatu_rainday.jpg very much; if you've the original size pic & willing to share, it will add a beauty to my desktop. However, I couldn't make a relationship between the puppet festival & jail. Is it some show done inside the jail?

It was previously used as Central Jail, but not anymore. A bigger jail has been constructed and all the inmates have been moved there(I guess). The Freedom Park was constructed for a different reason : Citizen Matters, Bangalore: Move over Central Jail, enter Freedom Park

I saw a program in BBC about Bangalore Jail. The food is catered by Iskcon. They also have Salsa classes for convicts who dream of making it to Kannada filmdom.
The food is so tasty that the van needs to be scrutinised completely before it enters the jail. It seems people try to smuggle themselves inside the jail to get the food for a long time!
Also they showed that once 3 convicts went on a hunger strike in mysore to be transferred to bangalore jail.
We pay the taxes, and look who benefits!

The time i clicked on the link i expected a long and horrendous story on yet another legal battle - with Jail involved (much worse).

But feel relieved to see the pictures.

Why the heck is there even a jail in Bangalore. With open space so hard to come by, I say demolish the whole thing and build a large park for the citizens.

Move the jail to some barren land.
