23rd June, 2010: Day to laze, day to get permits, day to get the Wolt cleaned, day to get inforamtion about route, day to replan and a day to do what we want.

We give the permit job to Santhi Guest house people for Rs.150/- per head including Turuk off Nubra. Next priority was to find a tube for the spare tyre and give the Wolt for a full check up at M&M service station. Got the tyre done and give the vehicle to M&M, there we found the man in charge of the patch work / painting and tinkering section Imran to be a close friend of Prajesh, this was a great help, he turned out to be the seeing-eye-dog in many aspects.

The fanbelt assey was making an uncanny sound, suspected the bearings (I had carried extra bearings) got bearings out, cleaned and greased it up and put it back, no problems. The service was a thorough job, lots of air and water, lots of soap, at least 6 guys working on it for 3-4 hours, one of the best services I have seen. Got all the fluids, hoses, nuts and bolts checked, the Wolt was shining like never before; around 0500 PM we are ready to roll.

In the afternoor Imran dropped us to a roof top restaurant, lovely little place with wonderful soup, momos for lunch. KP do you remember the name of the place?? After lunch we went up the Santhi Stupa wiith Imran for a photo shoot, great place to get a view of the city around.

Around 6 PM, Imran joined us, went to Shey Palace, spent time there and also to a Mosque nearby, one of the oldest in the region and then drove up the mountain for a Leh view, beautiful view, lovely wind and a tranquil place.

A snap from near Shey Palace just a sample, Prajesh has some knockers, probably coming up later......

What a pic! I love that little duck and reflection of ornagish cloud in water. These little ripples and the snow peak in the distance gives an additional beauty.

Did you go to Lehling Nawang Auto Engg? They are superb, their mechanics know what is to be done and do it well. The Works Manager himself personally supervises, I remember him from my earlier trips to the garage in 2003 and 2004.

Nice pics. Ramky sir looks tired in the pics.

@jiggy (since you are bartanwala ) : are those flasks in the left hand corner. I like the designs.

Finally, thanks a lot for diverting this thread again to the travelogue. Though I had also contributed a little bit in diverting out.

The duck photo is truly amazing! Depth of focus was good. Ability to focus on the duck and at the same time, not missing out the panoramic details!

Looking at the Ramkya-Sir-LLAMA (to be read in one breadth) snap reminds me of Tintin and the Prisoners of the Sun!

Its near the airport road. For significance, read up on Zorawar Singh.
In Leh there is an army museum/Hall of Fame which touches in detail upon Zorawar Singh.

The very same place, I remember you told me about their service and it proved to be right, they are authorized service centre for Matuti also. The Works Manager was a storehouse of information (was a truck driver on Leh Manali route 6 years back) very co-operative and the mechanics were very thorough. Having Imran there also helped us speed things up, the overall experience was very satisfying.

Flash photo inside Shey, near the Buddha is not allowed, still camera charges Rs.20/-

Lots of information here on General ZS here,

General Zorawar Singh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Imran showed us this place and said it's lit up beautifully on many days, we wanted to look it up so that we can come in the evening for a photo shoot with lights, we tried on 2-3 days, but no lights.

Did you feel or find your scorpio engine gasping for
air anytime during your this high altitude driving or
any modification done to the engine air flow because
of High altitude thin air ?

Cheers
