Few more snaps to add. This is Ayyanakere at Sakkarepatna.
(20 Km from Taj Gateway on the Kadur road.).
If it was not for my friend I would have not known about this beauty!

@ampere : The first one in your second set of pictures is awesome. The other shots are nice too with lot of greenery on either side of the road. It reminds me of our recent trip to Kemmannugundi. By the way, which camera did you use?

I am a simpleton and no professional. I have a Sony camcorder SR11, through which I capture stills !

Still trying to figure out if I should delve into the world of SLRs.

Chikmagalur-A notch on my travel butt

Sethi saab -I too followed your example and struck Chikmagalur of my wish list. Drove down there on 11 Sep and stayed at "Spectrum" a nicely located Homestay with great hosts. Though I captured alot of scenic beauty but will not like to hijack your thread and secondly no patch to the ones you and Ampere have attached. Thanks guys for the mouth watering log and pics that i had to taste this most gorgeous place in Karnataka.
I loved the drive upto to Mulanagiri- it reminded me of my days in Kashmir as the clouds had settled on the peak and we drove through them there was a nip in the air.

Spectrum is ideally located and its Rs 1500 per person includes all meals with camp fire and snacks. Been to few others in Coorg etc but what makes Spectrum standout, for me personally, were the Host-Husband and wife great people without the pseudo warmth you get at some places. The food was sumptous and clean-they are making a few additions to the rooms but they are neat and clean-basics.

This place is called Seege gudda. You can drive upto the windmills. There is a motorable road all the way up.

You can see two sets of windmills. One you can see from NH48 right from CCD/Kamat. And the other from the Belur road. Are they the same?

Nope, the ones you see from CCD/Kamat, are located near a village called Shantigrama. This is before Hassan.

The ones near Belur road are after Hassan and are located between the Hassan-Halebid road and the Hassan-Belur road. They can be approached from both sides

I also thought so. But I got that doubt as the road curves towards Belur in general in the same direction towards these windmills!

But definitely need to go there once.

Not a good idea though, have been there and done that. I drove up from the MCF, Hassan side and was lucky to have come back without any damage to the car. The roads leading to the top of the mountain was in real bad shape and every now and then we had to get off the car and somebody had to be the spotter to guide you through the road.

Check this post here.

When you drive towards Chikkamagalur from bangy all the wind mills are towards to your right. The best thing to do is take the route from Hassan via the MCF towards Halebeedu and you can take a detour to any of the windmills.
