It's raining TL from San, and all are equally interesting. So we know the "Go To" man of the north east.
@San: be careful of the back to back posts, and you might use 'multi quote' feature to combine some of the posts.
In google map, check if you give source and destination in the direction tab, whether it plots. Most probably it will not know the destination location. You may want to zoom in the map and check if the roads are shown, and you can identify the destination location and then select the place and ask for 'direction to' that place.

Google map is not of much help when it comes to north east. Zooming in is no use as the picture gets blurred preety soon and comes the line 'don't have snapshots of the area this close'.

Even the Guwahati Goalpara section of National Highway 37 is misplaced in Google maps.

HvK & Sutripta has travelled more in the region, i am just starting off.

Joy, only after visiting the place did i come to know that one can reach Madan Kamdev from Guwahati without going to Baihata Chariali.
I took the Baihata road which is a right turn after talking the turn towards Tezpur highway as i was returning from Namlang.
Once you have left the highway, there are no road signs pointing to MK, one has to ask people before every turn, and since its village, there are many many roads to confuse one.
So its not possible to give direction from highway onwards, one has to keep driving taking help of locals for the correct way.
On my return journey through the Mandakata road, it was even more difficult as there were no one to ask for direction at many places.
At last i picked up a local who was waiting for Tata sumo taxi.
The last part of the road was real bad before it joined the north guwahati road that joins the highway Police Outpost.
I will download all the snaps in Panoramio, then you can make an idea about the route taken.
Sorry for the late reply!

Two decades back there was big rumour in eastern part of India about Kamrup Kamakhya temple and its devotees. It was rumoured that people used to go to this place to learn WitchCraft and after learning they used to practice at other places. I think there is Kali temple also. Please confirm.

Many of the Sadhus who were roaming in our native places proclaimed to have got SIDDHI from Kamrup Kamakhya and they can do anything. OfCourse, they are using these words to villagers and ladies who get convinced with these very easily for getting easy monetary benefits.

Anyways, very nice pictures indeed.

Well Anuj i don't have any knowledge on the subject but will add an old picture of the temple later.

The only thing i can tell is that the largest gathering of devotees and sadhus here is during Ambubashi mela during which time temple remain closed for few days.

San, what time does the Kamkhya Temple open in the morning? At 630 am, I could not get darshan since it had not yet opened. I have had darshan in the afternoon on another occasion though.

The Brahmaputra views are from Bhubaneswari Temple? Or some other hill top?

HvK the timing i am not sure at the moment, but ther's always lots of people there and one has to que up.

And right the city pictures were taken from further up near the APRO office in Bhubaneswari hills.

It was raining that day and i had to shoot with an umbrella in hand. But i was excited to take these shots with my very first digital camera a Kodak Easyshare CX 6230, 3.5 mp. That also could manage it only after clubbing two month's full salery.

Hajo: Kedarnath Temple & Powa Macca

Today I went for a picnic near Kedarnath Temple, Hajo, some 40 odd kilometres from Guwahati. From there the shrine of Powa Macca was a nice trek of hardly a kilometre. Uploading a few photos.

The picnic spot : fairly clean and no mad rush of people

Guwahati getaways: Madan Kamdev, Doul Govinda, Aswaklanta etc-hajo07.jpg

The siblings : their respective owners' wives are sisters too :-)

Guwahati getaways: Madan Kamdev, Doul Govinda, Aswaklanta etc-hajo08.jpg

The stairway to the Kedarnath Temple. I didn't climb them, so no photo of the temple from inside its premises.

A tea and snacks shop near the entry to the temple.

The trekking route to Powa Macca from the Kedarnath Temple.

A view of Kedarnath Temple from the way to Powa Macca.

Some other shrine at some distance below, caught by the zoom lens of my camera.

Powa Macca is a very revered shrine for not only Muslims but also for people of other faith in this region. It is believed that a quarter kg of sacred earth from Mecca was brought and placed there, hence the name Powa Macca.

Re: Guwahati getaways: Madan Kamdev, Doul Govinda, Aswaklanta etc

Thanks TnH for the lovely pictures and introducing a new place across the Saraighat. Poa Macca and Haygrib Madhab is in my wish list as well.
And the car shot shows your family's love and trust for Fiat which though is a great brand is unfortunately not doing good sale wise.

The polling booths were yet to open so took a detour and visited Kharghuli area and went through the local newspapers by the Brahmaputra. Its the best location to live in Guwahati.
