I have been here for about six months now , and this is by far the largest event that i have see here , and it is mammoth event by indian standards for a company family day ! with a participation count of more than 100,000 !

Here are some teasers while i organise my 3 GB worth of pictures and videos.

Near the huge Trent 900 Engine , they are huge , but trust me on this one these are about only half as noisy as a 747.

The signages on the fuselage are the operators who currently operate A380. As of today there are only about 35, A380 operating all over the world. Felt proud to see the only Indian having ordered a A380 , KINGFISHER

WOW. But I thought the A380 was bigger than this. May be I'm not able to appreciate the scale in a picture unless I get to see the A380 next to another Airbus.

I saw a programme in NatGeo about how they assembled various parts of A380 and transported things all around. So was thinking that A380 must be really really huge. Guess will have to see it in person to really appreciate the size.

Oh those Trent 900's are brilliant. With such a low noise and fuel efficient engine I wonder what passenger miles/gallon this would to the 380. You are one lucky person hellstar. Excellent stuff.

Flying is always exciting. Airbus is one of the top 2 pioneer in making the jumbo jet planes.
the technology, design, engineering, quality, realiability requirements are mind blowing.

Trust me it is ! Ok , i will try to get you a picture of the A380 side by side with some other aircrafts.

But for your to relate with, the tail fin of the A380 is 5 floors high !

Ok here are some facts for you about the A380.



• A380 is the largest civil aircraft in history, with a maximum take-off weight of 123.5klb (560 tonnes)
• A380 was launched in December 2000; 40 years after 747.
• A380 consumes less than 3 litres per pax per 100 km - vs 747-400 which consumes 3.4litres per pax per 100km)
• 6.000 engineers and technicians have worked on the programme development.
• 10.000 bolts are inserted inside the fuselage to attach each of the 3 main parts. Plus 8.000 to attach both wings.
• Each A380 consists of around 4 million individual components with 2.5 million part numbers produced by 1500 companies from 30 countries around the world (800 from the US;
21 from Japan).
• A380 wing area is 9,100 ft² (845m2) 54% more than 747-400. This enables the A380 to land 20 knots i.e. 22 mph (35kmh) slower than a 747 at it’s maximum landing weight of 386
tonnes, and helps to reduce noise around airports.
• The volume of the three decks (including cargo/baggage hold) is 55,450 ft3, (1570 m3) enough space for 35 million ping-pong balls.
• The two passenger decks of the A380 have a total area of 5,920 ft2 (550 m2) the same as three tennis courts (singles), or 1Ό basketball courts
• The fuel capacity of the aircraft 320 000 litres is the equivalent of 21 road tankers.
• During take-off the wing will flex upwards by over 13 ft (4m).
• The wing span is 261.6ft (79.8m) and the wings are swept at an angle of 33.5 degrees. The maximum design load on the 6-wheel body gear is 260 tonnes - equivalent to 200 VW Golfs
or Peugeot 206s.The weight of the external paint of the A380 (topcoat plus primer) is equal 531 kg.
ENGINES = four Rolls-Royce Trent 900
• The Take-off thrust of A380 is double that of the 8 engined B52.
• The 280,000 lb of take-off thrust across the wing is the horsepower equivalent of around 2500 family cars (at 110 hp each).
• The engine's hollow, 116 inch swept titanium fan blades suck in over one and a quarter tons of air every second.
• The engine's hollow, 116 inch swept titanium fan will operate at nearly 3000rpm with fan tip speeds reaching 1.5 times the speed of sound.
• Rotational speeds of the internal stages reach 12,500rpm; with turbine blade tip speeds reaching 2,000 kph (1240mph).Temperature in the engine reaches half the temperature of
the surface of the Sun, whilst the pressure in the engine reaches 50 atmospheres. The A380 APU (auxiliary power unit) is sufficient to supply 800 family homes with heat and
power.

@hellstar:You are really lucky to see this mamoth in flesh.
Here is a pic that I found on the internet which can give an idea about the comparison of A380 against the A340.

For comparison with other aircrafts , here is a picture i took on the same day , this is the same aircraft that is in flight . One of the test mules .



Hope you get the idea not , its the radius of the fuselage that has been increased and not really the length. Infact i think the A380 is shorter in length in comparison to the Boeing 748 by a couple of meters

I still like the looks of the 747 over the A380. It still carries the "king of the sky" look. That is a great achievement for a 40+ year old aircraft design.
