Since it was near-end of monsoon, the paddy fields were in full bloom.
There is something about the green paddy fields that soothes the mind.

Judge for yourself :

A farmer off to work in the paddy fields.I asked if i could take a snap of him and he happily oblidged.How innocent these people are !

Very good Travelogue and cool Snaps!

U know what, i am always amazed at the "Malnad style bus stops" on those narrow roads.
The speciality of these authentic bus stops is that, its always empty.
And, when there is 10 seconds for the local bus to arrive, from an invisible canopied narrow gulley, comes 2 women with umbrella to board the bus. They would have that umbrella, in Rain or shine. Because, if it is shining, it is HOT, and if it rains, it pours buckets.
And as a matter of fact, those who board the bus would definitely know the bus driver and conductor very well as they would meet each other every single day at the same min, same sec.
And hence my attraction to those bus stops.

I also have to mention about school children who walk pretty LONG distances to reach their home. I have dropped such children more than a handful of times to their homes, in many malnad areas.

I had been to Kumta recently for a Hindustani Classical concert of my wife at the City hall. I got a chance to meet a number of local kumta people. I realised that even though they are far from Bangalore/Mangalore (big cities, i meant), there is no compromise on fashion, technology, cars! But what they have and what we lack is the "Heights of hospitality". I am sorry to say, we city dwellers cannot match that.

Sorry for all the OT !!
I am a ford Fiesta Owner and i love fords!

@null: Thanks Null.
Sorry, I did not mean that way when I said "experts".
Your comments/suggestions are all welcome - layman or expert alike!

Here's the rest of the story :

In-laws home is SAGAR. To be precise, Mother-in-laws house is SAGAR town and Father-in-laws house is a little village near SAGAR called “Kodasara”.

This place is so secluded and serene, that it brings joy to my heart.
No traffic worries, no work, slow pace of life, greenery everywhere. It’s beautiful to say the least.

They have an old house with character .Not the concrete building like the city ones, but one with a view of the coconut & areca nut plantation and a small cowshed complete with the “gobar gas” well and all.
I love cold weather. Colder the better. I hate hot, humid places. This place gave me exactly what I wanted. They don’t even have a fan, because early mornings its freezing cold (which I L-O-V-E).

I envy SAM KAPASI when I see those misty picturesque villages. They look so cold and damp and cozy. Don’t know why SAM keeps cribbing about the cold weather!

The rest of 3-4 days was spent lazing around, eating Beetle nut pan and strolling in the plantations.

Speaking of Beetle nut pan, this is not your typical “sweet-pan” that you get at the pan wallas here in city, but authentic pan compromising of more intense pan leaf (in the sense more ..how do you say it …spicy if I may), beetle nut , “choona” or “sunna” (not sure what it’s called in Queens language) and of course raw leafs (yes leaf) of tobacco. People from North Canara would be able to relate to it.
5 minutes into chewing this pan, will make your ear go red and ringing and you start to see kaleidoscopic images thru your bare eyes. Know what I mean!
(My wife will kill me if she ever knows that I’ve been chewing the damn tobacco leaves)
Anyways , here’s what I was taking about:

Would you look at the roads ?

@nimbleguru : Super photos guru. wah !!!

you made me remember my 'sodara atthe' ( my father's sister). Their family is residing in exactly similar arecanut territory. It is a remote village near Konandur (Tirthahalli taluk). They grow Arecanut, Paddy, Banana, Vanilla & Pepper. Beautiful & serene surroundings with no mobile connectivity & severe power outages.

This 'pan' chewing business is also very common in their place also !!

I made a trip that place last in 2008 and now feel like going there once again after seeing your photos.

Here at Team-bhp, we take pride in discussing every aspect, however minute detail it may be. And most of us have travelled 1000s of kms, to be aware of such things.
And we usually take discussions further. And NOT stop it by giving a sarcastic applause. No wonder, you had to desperately beg for comments on this thread.
If you want people to comment and involve your thread in meaningful discussion, you got to be open, and not get involved in sarcasm.

Out of here.

Very Nice TL!

The photos are very nice. I loves the places (lush green n beautiful beaches)and people (very kind at heart) in Uttara Kannda. I was in Honnavar in my early childhood and studied in 1st standard in Holy Rosay Covent. I really miss the place and your TL has inspired me to take my tall boy to the lonely beaches of Kumta.

Did you visit Murudehswar?

@pramod : I DID NOT MEAN TO HURT YOUR FEELINGS.
I genuienly liked your comments (obesevational skills) and was NOT sarcastic in any way.
I am really really sorry if I have in any way hurt your feelings.
Guess I should have put my wordings more carefully.All my fault Pramod.

Let me try it again Pramod and :
What you observed about malnad style is absolutely true and all I wanted to say was I never thought about it even though I am from that place and I see these things everyday and that i took all these amazing incidents of life for granted.
Sorry again for NOT phrasing my sentences right.No hard feelings friend.

@sanju.iitm: You don't say ! I studied at holy rosary convent too..1st or 2nd standard..i dont remember.

Such a Coincidence! I don't exactly remember the year, but I am 1981 born and came to Bangalore in 1988 and joined for 2nd standard here in Bangalore. So it may be b/w 1987/88 I must have studied in Holy Rosary Convent.

I have my class group photo(1st Standard) I will see if I can figure you out
