Hi Everyone,
I`m just back from a 3 day trip to Wayanad. It was a great drive pretty much in line with the reviews i read. Below are the details of my trip:

Vehicle: Indigo CS
Fuel: Diesel (Indian Oil Xtra Mile)
Fuel consumed: 38 Litres
Mileage: 16-17 Km/Lit (60% of the drive with AC on)
Driving time: 7 hours one way after crossing Bangalore city limits.
Total distance covered: 620 Kms
Route: Bangalore - Mysore - Najnangud - Gundlupet - Sulthan Bathery - Kalpetta.
Stay: Planet Green Plantations Resort.

The road condition was good apart from the stretch between Mysore and Nanjangud which is full of small potholes. I could maintain a speed of 30-40 Kmph max on this stretch. The road after Nanjangud upto Kalpetta is pretty good. There are potholes on the stretch through Bandipur forst which have been temporarily filled with some kind of sand and mud so it was manageable for now. I could maintain an average speed of 80-90 Kmph between Nanjangud and Kalpetta.

Petrol pumps are available at regular intervals. However you wont find many good places to stop for a bite apart from tender coconut water thats available aplenty along the way. There is a cafe coffee day at Gundlupet which was infact the only decent place i noticed.

One point you need to bear in mind is that you wont find decent restaurants in Wayanad. So you have to be prepared to enjoy the typicla Kerala cuisine.

Thanks to everyone on Team BHP for your inputs that definitely contributed in making this a memorable trip for me.

Cheers.
Peets.

The best break point from an efficiency point of view is the Gudlupet CCD.
One can drive from BLR all the way there a distance of about 210.

BF options on BLR-MYS road, really slow us down.

Agree on the food options in Waynad.

Waynad.. one of the places in my hot list yet to cover.. keep posting

Nice start peets, post more and more snaps. This time I was forced to stick to Bandipur-Mudumalai and miss Wayanad due to limitation of time, but very soon we would tick that Wayanad from our wishlist.

I had been to Wayanad almost in May. Boy, it was hot in the day. But when it rains in the evening as it did when i was visiting, it looks a different place altogether. Awaiting more pics and details mate!

hi peets

If there is one place in south india that i will never get tired of visiting or driving through, its wayanad, the place is magic and it never ceases to interest.

There is another big hotel just before the right towards wayanad in Gundlupet. Pretty neat place and the food is good too. I stop here for breakfast every time I visit Wayanad. In-fact gundlupet has quite a few hotels its just that you would have missed noticing them.

errr what, no decent hotels in Wayanad. Surprising so where in Wayanad have you been looking for good hotels :) ?

Sulthan Bathery has a pretty good hotel on your left hand side while driving towards Kalpetta. This is right after the private bus stand.

Meenangadi also has a good restaurant en-route Kalpetta. If its Darshini's like we have in Bangalore then kerala has none :). That said what places did you visit in Wayanad ?

Nice teaser peets. Keep the details coming.

Nice short write up. Post more pictures.

Peets, the first pic of the winding roads is superb. Please post more pics.
