Hope the Delhi F1 circuit opens up its doors soon. Waiting for more pictures from Singapore till then. Not just of cars but the other crowd pullers as well.

Since I had time to kill, crossed over towards the Singapore Flyer. The preparations for the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia first race were going on.

Probably one of the Formula BMW cars which had spun out earlier.

Once the Porshes went out for the race, I decided to take a ride on the Flyer. The Flyer area was Porshe experience zone and these two beauties graced the entrance (A Carrera GTS & A 365 C).

I was expecting long queues for the flyer but thankfully that was not the case. None of the capsules were packed giving good photo ops.

The view of the track from the Flyer is to die for. Could see the Porshes ready for their start.

It was time for the final practice. Quickly made my way to Turn 1 where one gets the first glimpse of the cars coming out from the pits. And then it started. The most amazing sound I have ever heard, the V8s revving. All eyes were glued to the pit exit and the beauties emerged one by one. I removed my ear plugs to experience the feeling even more. No TV broadcast can do justice to the real stuff. Took some pics and enjoyed my first live F1 experience.

After the practice session, I walked back towards the flyer with the intention of hitching another ride at night. But the sight of these beauties changed that.

They were lining up for the president's rally. An awesome opportunity for Ferrari owners to drive on the racing track and generate money for a good cause. Here is a small video of the start

It was almost 9PM and I wanted to see the Freestyle Trials Bikers perform in front of the Bay Grandstand. But, that stage was only accessible to the Grandstand ticket holders so I decided to go have a look at the Helix bridge. You get a clear view of the Bay Grandstands from helix.

The Helix bridge gives you awesome views of the Marina and the Bay Grandstands. A video from the Helix bridge (You can see the Ferrari Rally passing through the Bay Grandstand).

I walked back towards the F1 village where the Italian group Divas was performing.
A backpacking trip to the Singapore F1 2010-45.jpg

Nothing to write about the performance except for the performers so proceeded for the food stalls (again, hardly any veg options ). As it was getting late, rushed back to the track for the Qualifying.

It was hard following the Qualifying, so I spent time walking around to spot good vantage points for photography. All the Ferraris which took part in the rally were neatly parked in a garage.

Adam Lambert was going to perform after the qualifying, but I was too tired to walk all the way to the other end of the circuit (not a fan of him either) so, gave that a miss. Watched the group "Brazil Brazil" perform for a while before calling it a day.

27 Sep 2010 - Raceday

The initial plan was to go to Singapore Zoo in the morning and head to the race track by 3 in the afternoon. But since some local friends advised us that the zoo would take up the whole day and also since we were also quite tired decided to drop the zoo plans. Decided, we'd head to Marina Sands in the morning and after lunch, I'd head for the race while my friends go to China town.

I wake up and see one friend still asleep while the other was brushing his teeth. A look at the clock and I am like ***! It was already afternoon. No proper sleep on friday night (on the flight) and lots of walking around on saturday had taken its toll on us. Quickly freshened up and headed out for lunch. We reached City Hall MRT by around 2:30pm with the plan to checkout Suntec Mall. While walking towards the mall, I see a board leading towards F1 - Gate 7. Changed my mind and split with my friends to head towards the race track (I'd realize later that this was a very good decision).

The Formula BMW race was already in progress

When I reached the paddock area, the Formula BMW cars & crew were making their way back from their race and the Porshes were ready for their turn.

The surprise

After the Porshes left for their race, I moved ahead and saw a familiar face at a distance. It was none other than David Coulthard (Couldn't catch him for an autograph though).

A backpacking trip to the Singapore F1 2010-73.jpg

Thought that to be a nice coincidence and was about to walk away from the spot when I overheard someone say, "All these people are waiting here for the drivers". Decided to wait and try my luck. Managed to get the autographs of Jenson Button, Kamui Kobayashi (no photo of him), Robert Kubica, Nico Hulkenberg, Nick Heidfeld & Mark Webber

The guy whom I thought first to be Nick Heidfeld (Probably his brother)

Bernie Ecclestone passed by but very quickly and only a couple of fans managed to get his autograph. Saw Sebastian Vettel as well, who after seeing the fans waiting jumped through the fence and ran towards the driver entrance, followed by a group of screaming girls.

Carlos Sainz Jr of Red Bull who came 3rd in the Formula BMW Pacific race. Felt bad cause no one was even paying attention to him. I have to admit, I had to do a fair bit of googling to find who this is.
A backpacking trip to the Singapore F1 2010-81.jpg

Got to know from another guy waiting there that I had just missed Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso. Had to be happy with a photo of Shumi that he had taken and not even photos of Alonso cause he was surrounded by bodyguards. Also, got to know that Hamilton and Massa go directly inside the track in cars and not through this walkway.

Tip: If you want to have your photographs taken with the F1 drivers, go with a friend. If you are alone, carry a P&S and practice taking your pic yourself with one hand
