RK Sans, Thanks for the pricing details, i was expecting them to be a bit lower than the prices posted on their sites ! IMO, prices seem to be bit high. Are the prices negotiable ? Say around 20 ~ 30 % ?

When i tried to negotiate with them, they did not come down even a little. This is the season for them, so i believe they know people come at whatever the price. But personally i feel paying that much at Havelock is worth but at port blair its not worth.

Last leg of the trip

22nd
Last day at Portblair.
Got up early, as we had our flights back to Chennai at 12.15, we thought we will visit the cellular jail. So after breakfast around 8.30am, we left to cellular jail. It opens at 8.45am and it takes appx 30-60 mins to take round inside cellular jail. We returned back to hotel and packed and were off to airport. Fly back to Chennai was uneventful. Reached Chennai on time and got transferred to railway station as we had the Jan shatabadi back to Bangalore.

Very good TL with amazing pics to supplement it with.

The shots of the beach make me want to plan an outing at the earliest to this place.

Your writing is pretty straight forward and captures the essentials very well

Hope your son enjoyed it as much as you and your wife.

This cellular jail is the one where our freedom fighters were imprisoned right ?

What is that punishment dress in your second pic ? (the brown one)

You are right Nirmal. That was were the britishers imprisoned our freedom fighters.
Regarding punishment dress, i do not remember reading anything over there, but i heard from an incharge person, that person who is to receive punishment is given this dress and wearing it leads to severe itching. And i believe it should be made of jute(the material used to prepare Gunny bags). So i believe it would rough also,so if you imagine the rough-side on to your body and get whiplashes/flogging punishments on that, how painful it would be.

Hi Avinash,
How are doing ?
That was the only sore point in the whole trip, we missed it by minutes. they had left the elephant into jungle and the concerned person tried to get the elephant back before we left but could not.

Vikram,
they do not have fixed schedule for it. If there are too many childrens in their guest list than it would be available to see, if not they let the elephant into jungle.
But if you are staying at Barefoot Resort, you can tell them that you want to see the elephant and they would arrange to get it back to the resort the next day.
I am also PMing you the other details you asked for. Sorry for the delay.
