A Journey through Leisure trail of Wayand

My friend wanted to go "somewhere" when the long weekends arrive.
As usual, till last week of October we couldn't finalise anything.
Then ,another friend joined us in search of a weekend drive. We decided Madikkeri+ Kasargodu. But the latest reports on Madikkeri-Kasaragodu road conditions were not promising and hence we'd to replan again. Also the long weekend crowd to all the nearby destinations already occupied all accommodation facilities,we were familiar with.

So,on 28th or 29th we decided Wyanad. As I had visited Wayand many times earlier, I was not so much convinced about that idea. But ,you'll learn that every journey is special, every visit or every travel through the same spot, same roads are different at some point of life.

Then came the biggest issue of accommodation. Most them were booked. Then through some personal contacts, managed to get one great place.
We got accommodation at one coco-coffee plantation of about 117 acres, which was once Cadbury's main estates there.

As we were 6 people+1 kid, we decided to avoid wild, trekking beauty of Wayanad and chose the leisure trail consistings of lakes and other places.

We started around 7:30,and as expected it was heavy traffic flow on Mysore road.(all weekend traffic to ooty, wayanad, coorg, mysore etc). But as our plan was to enjoy the drive and was not in a hurry, took around 4 hours to cross Mysore.

route taken- Tumkur entrance-Mysore road exit on NICE.
Break at Kadu Mane for breakfast.
One diesel filling break at Maddur.

I'm skipping pics of this section.Traffic was relatively less on the remaining stretch.

The roads between Mysore-Nanjangodu was not in good shape. But we got the beautiful road after that.

My friend wanted to stop and ask "where are you 3 going?".Then I demotivated him by saying,if he asks back to join them ,so all 4 can go together, what will he do?

We saw 3 or 4 herds of deers.
Some of them wanted to pose. So,I didn't disappoint them.

A Journey through Leisure trail of Wayand-dsc_5463.jpg

But we couldn't spot anything else.I remember my earlier drives in 2004s and onwards, where we used to see elephants ,bisons and different types of deers.
I think the night ban on road has increased day time traffic and noise and nowadays wild animals, stay inside the deep jungles and not much interested to see the automobiles and people.

We entered Kerala border around 12:30.

The drive through Mutanga bamboo forest is soothing one.

The mystic beauty of Wayanad was there to welcome us,at Kalpetta town.
We took lunch break at Sulthan Bathery,at Jubilee restaurant, which has been our regular halt for numerous years.

We went to pokkot lake that evening.
Its a great place with a small park, and a small road around the lake. There are various kinds of boating options available.

Yes.It may be a water lilly. The laves looks so.Anyway it was almost sunset and I couldn't verify.

In some pics in flickr and all I found it mentioned as blue lotus.
eg:
blue-lotus | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

You have to go towards Calicut side, from Kalpetta and take a right turn after Vythiri.

Next day early morning, I came out of my stay to witness the misty mountains and nature.

A Journey through Leisure trail of Wayand-dsc_5584.jpg

The surroundings were decorated with rain drops and mist of previous night.

A Journey through Leisure trail of Wayand-dsc_5586.jpg

Sometimes people ask me,why do you love rains? What does rain change ?
Here are the answers.

A Journey through Leisure trail of Wayand-dsc_5587.jpg

And some people claim that we can create same image by sprinkling some water on flowers. But ,you are wrong. We can never create the magic rain creates.

The mountains outside were decorated with mist and cloud.

Looks like you had an amazing getaway. Where was the stay?
In fact when I was at the lake, it started pouring and I was forced to take a "chai break"

Since they have done the Nanjangud-Gudlupet section, its even better to drive!

My stay was with Adv.George Pothan in his estate(which was once Cadbury's biggest plantation and research centre there),which was in news recently for not_so_good reasons.

The Hindu : States / Kerala : Tribals agitation for land continues in Wayanad
Mathrubhumi - Eviction drive in Wayanad partial

There were more in store for us nature lovers, in that estate.

The estate was full of interesting stuff.

We spotted some large Spiders. They made beautiful webs covering very vast area and looked so beautiful with their amazing attire.

That day we spent morning half at Banasura Sagar Dam and second half at Soochippara waterfalls. This is India's biggest and Asia's second largest earth dam.

Enroute to Banasura

Shutters:

It has a small nature park, where they put lots of swings made of ropes.
The shop inside has ice creams and colas, but no water. :( (may be due to that big dam nearby.)

While going to Soochippara falls,Kalpetta town looked more beautiful than the first visit.

Tea plantations decorated the way till soochippara.

I tried to catch the english version, but as the roaring sound of waterfall dragged me,I couldn't stop and focus. Take the pain and read:

Tried to capture the entire energy of the fall.
