vow! I never knew a place like this existed. Little bit of google'ing and Wikipedia tells me that "The annual December cultural festival, Kadambothsav, is a huge gathering, organized by the state government, and featuring folk dancers, drama troupes, classical musicians, art exhibitions, while drawing together performers, artists, and writers from all of South India"

Also, you must be feeling proud of the fact that your car crossed the magical figure of 123456! That's awesome. Congrats. (off topic: have you thought of writing a long term ownership report?)

@ravibhat,
Yes, could be. And you are the expert in your areas, you would know better.

@asdon,
The guide to banavasi, which i have attached has the stay details. But in short, it is a very basic stay what they have.
One cost Rs.650 and other is Rs.850 per day(rooms only), food is extra.

@vasanthn21,
As mentioned "Banavasi" was the first capital during those days.

It's been 5 years since we have the accent and 123456 kms, so no plans for long term ownership review. I have lost track of services done. Only thing we are maintaining now is regular service, good detailing job once in 3 months.

Day 2 - 14th

Got up early and went out for a walk. Wow!! roads were filled with mist and reminded me of my good old childhood days at Shimoga. During winter when i was going to school, the roads were fully covered with mist and we could not even see the school bus coming. We could see it only when it arrived at the stop.

We vacated the tourist home and bid adieu to Banavasi, reached Sirsi had breakfast. Then we went to Yana. I liked the roads leading to Yana, lots of twists and green.
I narrowly missed running over couple of snakes which were about to cross the road. Felt sorry for disturbing their walk over to the other side of their territory. After that i was more cautious in driving in that stretch.
At Yana, my friend and my son did some blood donation. Yes, you guys are thinking right. Donated blood to leeches. One of them tried to climb on me, i am used to their tactics, so caught hold of him, showed him to my son as it was his first encounter with bloodsuckers and then left the poor guy to find somebody else for blood donation drive.
Yana, as usual, amazing place to visit. There were very few people and pretty neatly maintained. I believe it should because its not a season and it rained couple of days before.
We came back to Sirsi had lunch and then went to saharasalinga. It was crowded over here and spent few minutes only.
Later we started our journey back to bangalore via same route. It was uneventful all the way back.

Great log! The Yana rock formation is amazing and fresh as ever.
What is the route from Banavasi to Yani and how far is it?

Which is the Sirsi Yana road?
I could not find it in either Satguide or MMI or GM.

You are right. But you need to take the Sirsi-Kumta road, then after 4-5 kms, you need to take a right turn to Yana. They have put proper directions after that, to easily reach Yana.

Hi rk_sans

very good travelogue there, some amazing pictures.
Banvasi has been written all over our Kannada test books in the primary/secondary school both Gadhya (Text) and Padhya (Poems mostly by Aadi-Kavi Pampa).

I wanted to go there during last week's Goa trip, but could not go due to lack of time.

A trip to Gokarna is long due. I lived in Gokarna for 5 years till my 10th standard. Since then i have never been there, want to go, find and meet some old friends / class mates. I will combine with some other destinations viz. Banvasi, Gudavi bird Santury, Sirsi, Yaana, Mirjan Fort, Gokarna beach some time next year.

Yes, we had a great drive and trip. It was primarily for attending a wedding in the family. We had seen Goa couple of times before, so we did not go around this time. Just spent the time at Resorts on the Utroda beach, where the wedding event took place.

Needless to say weddings are family affair. Hence no publishing of travelogues this time. I already share road condition update in Goa thread.

Sorry for the off topic.

Love the Nandi peeking pic.
There are a lot of places in and around Sirsi to visit. When I was in Hubli I traveled a lot to Dandeli and Sirsi. I am yet to visit all the waterfalls there. But have visited Sathod falls and its amazing .There are many other places to visit here. On the way to Sirsi there is a Tibetan Settlement near Mundgod .Visit to this place is worth it.

Sitting in office I am kicking myself for not visiting all the places

Banvasi is a fascinating and is typical of Kadamba architechture.The place remains exactly same as it used to be many years ago. Had been to this place years ago when i was in Sirsi. Lovely snaps by the way!
