Man, I was in Boston, the same time last year (2009) from Mid August till mid sept. Though I couldn't write a travelogue, Your snaps recalled all my memories, the Boston Logan Airport, the country side of MASS and New Hampshire !!!

Have you taken pics in MIT, Harvard University, Quincy Market and other places around Boston?

I will try to attach few snaps later in the night, which i took last year. Some are crazy, but that is America

Prashanth, I guess I was in the same hotel. MIT and Harvard I have seen in my previous visit to Boston. Missed Bose HQ then and now :(

Ravi, please go ahead with your snaps. Quincy Market also I had visited last time.

@Others: was busy in a vacation in the week-end and then busy at work - hence no updates. Hope to resume from tomorrow.

Re: Back from Boston

You are lucky. The way Boston and NY got pounded with snow and blizzard early this week is horrible.

Re: Back from Boston

Its indeed a small world, I was staying at Extended stay deluxe.

It would have been fun if I had found earlier that I had a Bhpian for company.

Yes, though as I mentioned I came back almost three months before. I was not so lucky in 2003, when I was in NY/NJ and similar snow stopped JFK and Newark airport as well that time.

Yes, it would have been fun. But I am not sure if our dates matched I was there from mid Aug to mid Sep.

Ravi, thanks for sharing those wonderful photograph. This time I have not been to downtown that much - but recollect the places visited in 2003. Feel free to add more photos and description as well.

Newport

After the wet wet week-end and the fire incident, Monday I went and picked up the car from Budget Rent-A-Car. The customer experience (or rather the office appearance) was not good as Avis, or even Enterprise, but the deal was better compared to any others. The car given was a silver Dodge Avenger. Drove slowly back to office in rain and getting used to left hand driving after a gap of more than 7 years.

With the regular commute to the office I was not happy with the car's pull and decided to change it on next Saturday, 28th Aug. With the time constraint in mind decided to go to Newport and come back before 3:00 pm to change the car. One of my colleague BP accompanied me.

In between I picked up a Garmin GPS as well - so just put the destination and reversed the car from parking lot.

BP went trigger happy, seeing the beautiful interstate.

Garmin led us to a interior road, rather than continuing on interstate, most probably due to some wrong preference setting by me

Road work even in the sleepy town is so well marked and coordinated

Re: Back from Boston

I can understand the driving on interior roads than the interstates. Problem with interior roads is the varying speed limits. 35, 40, 55. Its frustrating sometimes.

Newport, contd.

From Jamestown Bridge

On Newport Bridge

From Newport Bridge

Reaching Newport, we parked in public parking, next to visitor center, took the map and help from the gentleman there to decide on the "ocean drive" - a scenic driving route by the side of the ocean.

We stopped at Fort Adams state park, to see the boats anchored
Back from Boston-img_1514.jpg

and the boats sailing,

the green and the blue.

The entrance of Fort Adams. Didn't generate enough inquisitiveness for us to venture in.

Route Map

Routemap created from GPX file using GPSVisualizer, the poor color quality is a result of gif compression, next time will stick to jpeg.

Re: Back from Boston

Chevy Impala eh! I hope you would have some snaps of the rental. It will be interesting to see how the 2010 version of this icon of yore looks.

Khoj, these two for you - first one is taken in Acadia National Park, Maine and the second on the ascend of Mt Washington, New Hampshire.

Hey that was quick, thank you very much.
I quite like the rear three quarter look and the alloys are lookers too. Look forward to the next edition of your memoir.

Re: Back from Boston

I can't forget my Boston trip. My brother and I were in Logan enterprise rentals and they'd run out of full size. Being a priveleged member, they offered an upgrade for a nominal amount.
24 USD per day including of bumper to bumper insurance. And what do I get? Nissan Xterra! Bright yellow colour.
And we drive out shortly after midnight to the Big apple.
The vehicle ranks high on my list of 4x4s. Because there was a blizzard and we didn't feel a thing zooming at speeds around 80 mph.
After a day visit to New york, we were back and I missed my flight due to long traffic jams on the boston tunnels.
The next day Delta put me on a direct flight to Orlando (the earlier night was connecting flight through cincinnati) for no extra charge and arranged free accomodation as well.

The reason for the rain and traffic?
Hurricane Juan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

We drove through a Category 2 Hurricane without a clue! Amazing Nissan. The next time I go over to US, that would be the vehicle I'd set my eyes on.

New york was surprisingly gloomy but ok. No rains in Manhattan!
