Re: Southern Odyssey : 5000 kms through South India

Thanks buddy, nice pictures here. Was there some ceremony going on at the monastry at the time?

The temple is also a school for tibetian students, it has 2 parts the school for men and the school for women. The temple which you see here is also the school for men. I think the time we went there, it was their prayer time.

I have a close friend from Hunsur, we stayed at his place and were discussing about places worth visiting on the way to Madikeri. His Uncle told us about this tibetian temple.
Btw, i also stayed at his farm house in hunsur. (i dont remember how many times may be 10 times). Great food by his mom and 20 acres of coconut farm owned by his father and uncle. i have attached a few pics below, just to add to the good feel of home stays at such places. At his coconut farm, I used to select "that coconut trees that coconut is what I want, not this one the one on the right" and they used to get me those coconuts. It was great fun.

Re: Southern Odyssey : 5000 kms through South India

Day 14 : Bangalore.

Woke up around 8am, had tea and joined NH7 for a run into Bangalore, missed taking the elevated toll road and had to suffer the famed Bangalore traffic for half an hour before making it to Terrace Gardens just off MG road. This is a quaint little place in a leafy bylane at a walking distance from MG road with neat, clean and comfortable rooms.

NH7 to Bangy!

Checked in and had a light breakfast before calling for an auto to go to Bangalore palace. The entry charges are steep and there is not much to gawk at...all in all satisfactory.

Terrace Garden at Terrace Gardens, Bangalore. This is the 3rd Floor and they have 3 rooms here

There are 50K snaps all over the place

From here we went on to Lalbaugh and strolled through the sprawling gardens for a while again nothing great

A board said this rock is 3000 million yrs old!
Southern Odyssey : 5000 kms through South India-16-bangalore-lalbaugh-rock.jpg

The rickshaw guy we approached at lalbaugh promised to take us to MG road for free if we go with him to a handloom shop. I saw no danger in that and off we went, I was pretty confident wifey wouldn’t really shop at some small handloom store somewhere in the middle of nowhere but I was so wrong and had to undergo a extended bout of shopping mania for a couple of hours. In the end however, the rickshaw guy did drop us off to the hotel for free.

Coming back to the hotel, we thought of having some snacks and were directed to Hotel Ajantha nearby. Had the most amazing "Thatte idlis" and dosas...really a great place for some authentic southindian snacks
Lazed around a bit before catching up with some friends for drinks on MG road late into the night.

Homeward bound tommorrow.

Re: Southern Odyssey : 5000 kms through South India

Day 15 : Kolhapur.

The initial plan was to go to Hampi and then make it to Kolhapur for the night but we tanked the plan since it had already been an overload of temple sculptures and planned to go straight to Kolhapur.

Bangalore Golf course...right by the road so they built the net to keep the balls in...

1000kms to go...
Southern Odyssey : 5000 kms through South India-2-bangalore-mumbai-1000.jpg

As mentioned again and again on this forum "getting out of Bangalore aint easy" and I am no exception. Went round and round the city before finally getting onto Tumkur road by 10am and then it was a breeze to get to Kolhapur. Reached around 4pm and checked into Hotel Opal. Lots of construction going on in the city and its a pain to drive in there even for short distances.

At a level crossing at a diversion on NH4

Welcome to Maharashtra
Southern Odyssey : 5000 kms through South India-5-maharshtra-rajya-.jpg

So after checking in, we called for a rickshaw and went over to Mahalakshmi temple for a quick darshan. The temple is a glaring example of "what it could have been" if a little care and money would have been pumped in. The place is huge but shoddily restored and run over by hawkers. We had a good darshan here and made it back to Opal by evening.

Tararani...

Watched some TV before having the famous Opal kolhapuri mutton rassa and other delicacies for dinner and called it a day.

Back to Mumbai tommorrow!

Was looking for that, dont think an advanced mode exits when sending a private message? When i try to paste an excel table in the message body...it gets all jumbled up!

No.In private message ,you can't attach anything.
I was replying to your query on how to attach while replying here.

The "attachment key" section on the manage attachment window lists all file types and max. size allowed.
