This is simply awesome. Eagerly waiting for more. I am really impressed with the roads in Gujarat and Rajasthan based on your snaps. Seem to be tailor made for long drives. WA shines..

Cheer,

We spotted a nice temple which i think was Swaminath Gurukool Temple. A few shots taken from our speeding car
Dude the first pic is not a temple it is a GURUDWARA on highway with Nishan Sahib in front of it(High mast religious flag)

Very very nice travelogue sir. The pics were simply too good. and the car looks very good. I had just gone to the Chevy showroom with a pal for his BEAT and sat in the cruze, didnt drive it though but felt real good.

The highest speed was achieved on MGE which was well above the unusual 3-digit number and sustained for a reasonably long time

So very true Rajesh. Back in those days, everyone got luxury at really throw-away prices...lol

Undoubtedly Gujarat and Rajasthan has the best roads in our country with best ingredients for a heavenly drive

a) Sparse traffic
b) Buttery smooth road
c) Great traffic sense and behaviour of all drivers on road

That's correct. It was corrected by Tanveer and agreed by me in subsequent post.

Thanks. That's how i bought my car. First time ever sat in it in a showroom and within 15 days of that it was in my driveway

After a lovely visit to Umaid Bhavan Palace, our autorickshaw guy took us next to Mandore Gardens (Jodhpur) which also has a lovely temple situated amidst those gardens

There was nothing much to see in gardens except for the nice temple and there was some wildlife to be enjoyed.

Spotted many parrots and never in my life saw so many squirrels at one place. And, ones who weren't shy or scared and running away

A few of those little beauties even posed for me

Re: Expressway-Sand-Gravel-Snow: 5500kms in a Chevrolet Cruze

Well you were driving first on Nh-76 and then after Sirohi road/ Pindwara you come on Nh-14 which takes you till Pali. You had to take a right turn for Sirohi which was 24 kms from this photograph.
Even we missed the turn and went for some 10 kms ahead coz actually that turn comes somewhere around a flyover.Nh-76 and Nh-14 both were super smooth. Did you find lots of small children selling Custard Apple on the road.

Amazing travelogue. Some really fantastic pictures with a lot of attention to detail....
Sustained speeds touching 170 to 180 kmph for nearly 30 to 45 mins to cover a distance of 85 kms in 30 mins... The Math is simple isn't ...
Your trip just gives an impetus to us Travel freaks to go all across India.

You are from that area my friend and your absolutely right. The right turn was from Sirohi ( after your reminder now that name is back in my nightmare)

I am glad you find the math so simple. That's the actual reason for not mentioning the speed. Well, it was no big deal as anybody could do it.

It was the road and the machine. Little contribution from the man!

After the garden visit in Jodhpur, our next pit stop was the most famous Mehrangarh Fort (Jodhpur) which is truly worth a visit. This place oozes of history and has some fantastic views of blue city of Jodhpur from the top

However, my cousin made a mistake of taking a lift pass whilst coming back. Not an intelligent decision considering the climb is the tough part and not descent. You pay Rs.20/head for using their lift.

This fort also boasts of some of the most beautiful collection from a Rajputani Khandaan that you can ever see. Allow the pictures to do rest of the talking........

Beautiful photographs. Which camera do u use? As the travelogues moves forward the quality of the snaps is getting multiplied. Definitely your return journey should have been far far shorter taking into the fact that the family was not in the CRUZE

Amazing Travelogue Sir,

We did the same mistake of not taking the right turn at Sirohi and drew more than 100 kms as well. This caused us a delay of almost 3-4 hours. The pics are really amazing. Really enjoyed this TL and reliving our last years Road trip.

Re: Expressway-Sand-Gravel-Snow: 5500kms in a Chevrolet Cruze

After an exciting and re-living our history type of visit to Mehrangarh Fort where there were so many exhibits, it was indeed a marvellous experience our next pit stop was "White Memorial, Jodhpur"

We were told that this place is where all the maharaja's are buried after they pass away!

This happened to be our last pit stop of a crammed sightseeing day. Whew!

First 3 pictures are some ordinary day-to-day faces of Jodhpur

Avinash,
The three faces are good captures of character, we normally miss through the naked eye. So are the well documented photographs of your journey. Enjoying it all.
The first photograph of the palace with water in the foreground is a good composed shot.
BTW, the spots in your photographs are due to the dust particles on your sensor and not your lens, get it cleaned.
Regards,

Re: Expressway-Sand-Gravel-Snow: 5500kms in a Chevrolet Cruze

school test:

Question: What are the differences between forts of Rajasthan and forts of Maharashtra?

Answer: Following are the differences between f.o.r and f.o.m--

1] Like miya and bibi, Rajashthani forts are beautiful but maharashtra forts are rough and tough.

2] Outer walls of R forts are much higher than M forts.

3] Bricks and red stone are used to construct R fort, only black stone is used to construct M forts.

4] There are more tourist at R fort but M forts get just trekkers.

5] R forts are well maintained but M forts are in ruins.

6] In the past, majority of M forts were destroyed by british gang but R forts were attacked by middle east rulers.

7] blah--blah---blah---

Re: Expressway-Sand-Gravel-Snow: 5500kms in a Chevrolet Cruze

Next day we checked out of our hotel in Jodhpur and decided to head towards our next destination-Jaisalmer

While checking out there were a few foreign tourists also doing the same I got into a chat with their taxi ( White Ambassador) driver who mentioned they too were heading to Jaisalmer and offered to show me the route out of the city.

Thank god, we took up his offer as getting out of Jodhpur city to get on to the highway is a pretty complicated route with you needing to take some small bylanes with many lefts/rights before you hit the highway

Finally around 10:00am, we were on the highway and waved a "thank you" to the amby before we rocketed forward.

A funny and coincidental incident was we reached our hotel in Jaisalmer at 1:15pm after covering 295kms in little over 3 hours. And, around 4pm we saw the same amby crawl into our hotel and we exchanged grins of acknowedgement and driver shrugged as if to tell me they couldnt get there any faster
