Re: Reflections on Wildlife Addictions "Pench and Kanha National Park"

We wake up well on time to another early morning and look forward to the morning safari.
The walk to the gol ghar is an adventure by itself in the night and the early mornings when its still dark. Its so pleasant to be the first at the gol ghar , waiting for the gypsy being too taxing on us for our eagerness to be on the safari, we start walking towards the waterhole , which generally never lets us down on showing some wildlife or the other.
We see a couple of Bisons, day well begun..

We enter the park to witness a beautiful morning , this is when the 4.30AM alarm proves to be all so worth it.

Re: Reflections on Wildlife Addictions "Pench and Kanha National Park"

We silently drive into the mystical jungles, totally in loss of words for the beauty and serenity of the place.

Pug mark, wow , a start somewhere. There was a male tiger very close in the undergrowth where we could hear his bone chilling growls for a long time.

Reflections on Wildlife Addictions "Pench and Kanha National Park"-94.jpg

Old claw marks, now it was just the tiger that needs to be seen.

Reflections on Wildlife Addictions "Pench and Kanha National Park"-96.jpg

Hopefully waiting. Then the growls and the calls rested and so did our hopes too.

The bark of the tree torn down by an elephant.

When the tiger does not show up for a long long time, then we start noticing the small little amusing things around us.

Reflections on Wildlife Addictions "Pench and Kanha National Park"-98.jpg

Our hopes had just rested for that moment to see a tiger, We knew he shall soon come our way, saying so to ourselves we move on.

Re: Reflections on Wildlife Addictions "Pench and Kanha National Park"

Totally satisfied by our morning in the jungle we returned to our resort , already looking forward to the evening safari.

It so happens that often people get carried away with wildlife in the jungles, which leads to muddled up definitions of wildlife.
Tough to figure out here between the man and the gypsy , was the gypsy driver happy about the sighting or was the man running away from a wild gypsy

This reminds me of a incident related to me by my host at Corbett. Some over enthusiastic foreign photographer decided the big cats are really cats after all and he walked into the jungle to do some creative photography.

Park officials later found pieces of him !!

Re: Reflections on Wildlife Addictions "Pench and Kanha National Park"

Amazing shots. You have just reignited my old memories of visiting Kanha/Kisli when I was in 8th standard.

Your post made me to go through those albums searching for the pics taken from our reel camera (konica) back then.

That time we were on elephant safari and spotted the wild cat.

Not too far that I will visit Kanha in May end this year.

Terrified just after his first tiger sighting (more evident in the rear angle shot).

BTW great capture of the western wildlife, Coolcat.

Re: Reflections on Wildlife Addictions "Pench and Kanha National Park"

Have created a thread in tribute to Fateh Singh Rathore who passed away recently. Would request those who knew him or even had a chance meeting with the legend to share their experiences.

In any field there always are those few whose undying passion keeps the flame alive against all odds. Mr. Rathore was one such man. May many more people emerge who will keep the spirit of conservation alive.

Sir,
I am surprised that he was allowed to get off the gysp and wander into the jungle.

Just across the road from where you find most resorts the forest starts and you can easily walk in. We went in on elephant back and found a tigress less than half a km away from the resort resting in the hills in front of the resort.
