Re: Toyota Fortuner : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hello everybody, I would like to change my fortuner tyres from the present Bridgestone Duelers to Apollo Apterra AT2 same size (265/60 R18). I would like to get feedback from somebody who has used these tyres. My current tyres have run 40K kms but are 7 years old already so want to change them pre-emptively due to age.

Re: Toyota Fortuner : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

sir i am running on Apollo Apterra AT2 same size (265/60 R18) for the past 1.5 years and i can say i am pretty satisfied with them. The Only downside i have experienced is that the tyre noise has increased a bit but the road manners of the vehicle has improved. Especially in rains i can feel the car remains more grounded to road as compared to my previous Bridgestone Duelers HT tyres. The hit on the mileage of the car is not that much.

Thanks for the feedback, the damage to the pocket isn't that much either compared to other brands...

By any chance have you used the tyres off road?

No sir, I haven't taken it for hardcore off-roading. However once I went to a village for attending a function and the way to the destination was a muddy path. It was raining cats and dogs with about 20-30 cm of water logged on the path. The tires were easily able to mitigate the waterlogged path without any slipping. What I would suggest is that if you do off-roading once in a while and are on a tight budget, then these tires will be totally worth it. As compared to Bridgestone Dueler the material of the tires is pretty soft to touch. Before buying these tires I have literally read every thread on Team-bhp in 3 months and then finalized it. Last but not the least, if the budget is not a constraint Yokohoma Geolandar is the No.1 choice of most of the people on Team-bhp and secondly I haven't read any bad reviews about Apollo Aptera AT2 on team-bhp. Yokohoma Geolandar from Amazon is priced at 19000/- without any discount and you can additionally get 5% cashback if you have prime membership/amazon card, plus no cost emi. The seller is ETRADE which is Amazon itself. At the time I enquired about price of Geolandar it was 25000 a piece.

Re: Toyota Fortuner : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Need suggestions for 265/60R18 AT tyres which are good for tarmac as well as have snow rating for mild usage over snowy conditions.

I was reading BFG KO2 reviews and although it is snow rated, some reviews say that it fizzles out on snow and the Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws are way superior in this aspect.

AFAIK Falken imports are not happening post 2021 so what could be the next best alternative? Any first hand feedback on the Vredestein Pinza ATs?

You may also check for new Dueler D002 AT which is also rated for snow.

If the use is mostly on Tarmac, stick to a tread pattern close to stock so that everything including FE\ NVH etc are retained. Stock Bridgestone Dueler is an allrounder, you will not need to look for an alternative usually. Its good for everyday road \ highway use, trails etc with great amount of durability.

Given the utility of the vehicle its always good to have a tire that is widely available for ease of replacement. Something with limited availability due to imports can be a problem in future.

Re: Toyota Fortuner : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I checked with Madhu's tyres ( Bangalore) today about the availability and price of BFG KO2 and was told that the wait time would be approximately 3 months and price around 30K per tyre. Are there any other dealers in Bangalore who might have these earlier ?

sir I will like to mention here that I had dueler on my Toyota Fortuner( 265/60 R18 HT) and after 4 years there were micro tears all over the Tires. The tires still had some thread left but I lost confidence in them.

In general a sign of disuse - because If the vehicle is used well then by 4th year you are changing them anyways

The newer BOF vehicles won't even let you keep the tires for 4 years with regular use. They do not have much tread depth because of the different requirements of OEM from NVH to FE and high speed handling to name a few.

Hi BlackBeard,
So we have been using Apollo Apterra AT2s in our fortuner for approximately 2 years, where the car has clocked over 40,000kms, and there is still a lot of tread left, probably of about 20,000 km more, and since our driving is not as much as other peasants with fortuner (my dad's friend has a same age 2018 fortuner with 3,27,000 km on the ODO, while ours has done 1,18,000km), we will probably use it until the next year and go for Primacy SUV, because Michelin tyres are pretty good and keeping all terrain tyres on a 4x2 fortuner is useless.

Anyways, I want to say these tyres are pretty good, except the road noise. 120km/h on the highway would feel like going at 200km/h, that's how bad it is, and most tyres require alignment and balancing at 10,000km while these would need it at every 6-7000 km. Those are the two major disadvantages as to why our next tyres are Primacy SUV.

We might sell the car for an X5 before the tyres burn though, rest the time will decide.

Thanks and Regards,
Martand.
