The Primacy 3 ST is more of an everyday tyre aimed at guys that don’t want out of performance, delivering greater comfort. The Pilot Sports 3/4 deliver better performance than the P3ST.

Michelin’s website actually doesn’t show 225’s in 16 inch wheels, so I don’t think your dealer is fibbing. But you do need 225’s, with your remap imminent. You’ll get tons of wheel spin with 205’s.

I’d suggest you get even Pilot Sport 3’s that aren’t too old if they’re in your size. They’re the tyre of choice on team bhp for good reasons.

Thank you for the inputs. I even called up the Michelin Customer Care to check the sizes in PS4 and it is true that they don't have 225 profile.

So, the only option is the Pilot Sport 3 in 225/50/R16.

Epic, let us know how you get on with the 225/50/16s. My Octy is at ~28k / 2 years on the original GY Eagle NCT 205/55/16s. They are sounding very noisy and seems to have hardened. Looking for a change soon but worried about Skoda warranty violation.

Hello everyone,

So I am planning to get the tires changed on my 2015 VW Jetta Highline DSG this Sunday. The car has just about completed 26k kms. I am going in for the 225/50/R16 profile and told that it is available in Michelin PS3. The dealer has informed me that the MRP is 13.2k per tire and he is willing to give it to me at 12.8k per tire. Is this price quoted correct or should I be getting a better deal?

I got the tyres on my 2014 Jetta DSG replaced last December with Conti MC5 205/55/R16. PS3 225/50s were available at that time for around 12.5k.

On a side note, my Jetta is remapped but I went for the 205 section tyres because I got a sweet deal on MC5s back then. Even so, I have not encountered wheel spin under hard acceleration yet. So far I am impressed with the grip. Can't compare with PS3 or P3ST because I haven't experienced them yet.

As you are aware I am to change my tires tomorrow to the Michelin PS3 ST 225/50/R16. However, the problem is that after checking with almost 04 dealers, all have the manufacturing year to be around the 36th week of 2015 which is old.

Now after speaking to Mr. Mark Premji of Premji Tyres, he says that this does not matter as the tire is under warranty till 2020. The tire is costing me Rs. 12000 per piece and he is willing to discount it a bit.

Should I go ahead with these or stay away?

Those tyres are around two and a half years old. Some people believe that tyres should not be used after they have reached a total of 5 to 6 years of age from the date of manufacture. I don't subscribe to this view and tyre manufactures recommend a 10 year usage. If you drive your car a lot and think that the new tyres would last you between 2 to 3 years then you can go ahead with these tyres. If on the other hand, you think you would be using them for another 5 years, then I would be a little worried.

Michelin themselves say all their tires have a shelf life of 5 years. So I wouldn't be too worried. Get as much of a discount as you can, and pick them up and enjoy.

Well tyre manufacturers recommend 10 year 'usage' but these tires have been 'stored' since 2015 which is over 02 years and no idea in what condition. Also, I bought my car used in Sept 2016. At that time it had 19k kms on the odo and today it is 26k kms. So I can't say I drive the car much; around 20 kms a day.

I am using Continental MC5 in my S-Cross and very happy with them. Few of my friends are using P7, 3ST etc and running with same remap. But they are experiencing more wheel spin compared to my car with MC5.

Finally change my tires today to the Michelin PS3 in 225/50/R16 and I am so glad I did. I was a little skeptical due to their age as they were August 2015 manufactured tires but the other options (Continental MC5 & Pirelli P7) available in that size also had the same manufacturing year. After a lot of help and advise from Nikhilb2008, iliketurtles, Immix, Lobogris, Akshay1234 & Dr.Naren finally took the plunge and got the Michelins.

I got the change done at Premji's Thane and so had a good 30 km drive home post install which helped me test their performance. One word - WOW!! What a huuuge difference they made to the driving experience. Super silent, very soft over the bumps and the grip is tremendous!! They were ill-treating the ghat section of Ghodbunder Road which I loved!

My experience with Premji's was pretty average as I expected him to give me a much better rate than 12k for the tires considering they were August 2015 manufactured. Another disappointing thing was that they did not give me anything for the old tires. Not a penny!! Their excuse was that the size 205/55/R16 was not a tire that they can sell used.

How is the idea of putting Michelin Primacy 3ST 205/60/R16 tires on a Jetta 1.4TSI CL?

Hoping to improve the ground clearance a bit via the profile upgrade from 55 to 60.

Ride on stock tires is good, and should improve further with the higher profile.

The big apprehensions are: -

1. I plan to do some long trips on good roads shortly and high speed stability may suffer due to the higher profile.

2. The marginal increase in tire size may still end up fouling with the wheel well on bottoming out the suspensions, as German cars tend to be precisely engineered.

Seek opinion from experienced BHPians.
