re: Maruti Suzuki Swift : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Am considering upgrading my Swift zxi's 14" alloys to 15" shod on 195/60R15. Would like to know if this will lead to a jarring ride at the back as the profile goes down from 70 to 60. Anybody who has done this? or driven Swifts before and after the upgrades please advise.

Hi Khoj

I have been driving the my swift on 195 60 R15 and there no change in ride stiffness . Its real fun to drive and there is no sound of jarring inside the cabin . I ride like a maniac around corners on faridabad - gurgaon stretches . You will lot of confidence while driving on this profile . Go ahead and get this profile . Waiting for pictures of alloys and tyres of your swift .

Hi Safari_Beast,

Thank you for the response. My main concern is as to how is the ride on slow speeds?
See the car is used by my parents for their short around the neighbourhood trips and they are on the back seat all of the time. I do not want to end up enhancing the looks at the cost of their ride comfort.

ride on slow speed is comfortable , you will feel very slight difference when upgrading to 15 inches . Well we have lot of potholes in faridabad and didnt find any problem for people sitting in backseat .

Hey thanks again. With about 1/2" loss in rubber some diference will be there but hopefully not so much as to jar the ride. Will post pictures if I go ahead with the switch.

Hi,

Upgraded my Swift VDI's shoes to Michellin 185/70/R14 from LAL Enterprises.Done around 40 kms with the new tyres and it gives a solid feel at speeds.my only concers is ,if it will reduce the ground clearance as OE one's hieght is 80 mm and this is 70 mm.

It cost me 4500 per tyre

80 and 70 are not in mm, they are the % of the width of the tyre.

In other words 165/80 = 132mm

and 185/70 = 129mm

So the actual difference is only 3mm and not the 10mm that you are worried about.

Gill, how is the handling and steering feel with the C Drives on? Does the steering feel lighter? If so, by how much?
And how many kilometers have you done with the Yokos thus far?

I did the same with my Swift VDi and done some 11,000 Kms so far. Never faced any issue as far as ground clearance is concerned.

Tyres are not that soft, steering feedback is same as it was it Apollo. One noticeable difference is noise, it's bit quieter. All in all not much of difference.
@wet grip is good, worth mentioning.
I have covered 569km with new set of tyres.

Tyre Upgrade for the Swift

Hi need help with choosing the right size for Swift tyre change. Currently the Swift has stock tyres which are 185/70/14 if I am not wrong, thinking of either going a bit higher in the width with the same wheel size i.e 195/60/14

What would be the ride quality.. dont want to compromise it.

Any decrease in mileage....

Also which brands to go for Yoko's A/C drives, Bridgestone turanza, Michelin's.... please help with their cost too if you guys know.

195/60 R14 is a wrong upgrade! The best upgrade would be 195/60 R15, but since you don't want to change the stock alloys, the best size is 195/55 R14 I guess. You might want to check Jaggu's long term ownership thread to see the upsize he did on 14 inch stock alloys. Ride should not be very harsh on this.

And for the above mentioned profile, its slightly difficult to get the brands you mentioned. There is a thread dedicated to Swift tyre upgrades, you might want to run thru that as well. Else please PM Jaggu for the details of his tyres.

Edit:: Please find swift tyre upgrade thread - http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/tyre-a...ade-swift.html

Re: Swift Zxi Tyre Change

Hi I think the best Tyre size for Swift ZXI is 185/70/R14. I had to change the tyres and I went with Michelin's Energy+ with the same size as the stock. I am highly satisfied customer, the tyre roar has reduced a lot, handling is good and ride quality is also good. I think it won't matter much if you go with 195/60/R14 (though it will look little awkward) but that is not going to provide any thing better least it would cost little more as very few people would be stocking it. For me it costed 4200 per tyre (plus a samsung phone free for a set of 4) in February this year. Since rubber is in shortage, now it should cost around 4500.
