I'm getting my Swift VDi delivery within a month, I'm planning to upgrade my tyre to 185/70 R 14. Either XM1+ or ER 60.
Can I have them on stock rims for time being and may be in 6-7 months time put new alloys in place of the rims.
I'm asking this, as I want to exchange my stock tyres as soon as i buy the car to get a good bargain. Is this a good idea or should I some how strech my budget and get a alloys also in the first place

Hi Raghav, Even I have booked Swift VXi last week and I am upgrading to 185/70 directly in the same day of purchase. The dealer will exchange the 165 tires of Rs 10000 and XM1+ approx for Rs 13000 more. Advantage for having 185 is that you get a wonderful gripe and smooth handling. Disadvantage is that your mileage will drop by 1/2 Km that is negligible. So it all depends on your budget.

Yes you can go for 185s on stock rims no issues at all. Obviously if you go for alloys you have additional benefits of alloys coming with it but you can do it as an upgrade after you have saved sufficient cash.

Forgot to mention you can go for 185 on stock rims no issues at all

These are some of the reply I recieved from Senior - BHPian's.

Please, for heaven's sake, change your tyres! Those 165/80 R14 are ridiculous. They dont grip, they are not comfortable, they are a potential risk on the roads.

Mileage will not drop much, max 1km, which I experienced after changing to XM1+. I'm just back from a 2500km Maharashtra trip, and I got excellent grip levels on the curves and average trip mileage of about 20kmpl, and this includes almost 250kms of city driving in Mumbai/Pune. Few times I even got 22kmpl!

Thanks ranjith/ diesel fan, irrespective of whether I can afford the alloys immediately I will go for the tyre upgrade.
After hours of research and some advice from the likes of GTO and nikhil in other threads I'm convinced about the size, it is: 185/70 R 14.
Between what would you recommend: MICHELIN Energy XM1+ (or) Bridgestone ER 60 (or) Yokohama A drive.
I'm not much of a sedate driver myself but the car will sometimes be driven by my wife also. She is a beginner and is just learning to drive, this is one of the primary reason I’m opting for the 185’s over the 195’s.
FE I don’t care much as I’m confident the engine will give me good returns irrespective of the wheels (Keeping in mind the size I’m going for). I’m more worried about the balance between ride quality and drivability.

Anything between MICHELIN Energy XM1+ (or) Bridgestone ER 60

, both are word class products on tires. See what is the price difference and see how is the studding on it and choose anyone. Both of them have a very good life and reliability.

you can check out the lenso raiden series. i have white alloys on my white VDi. check out the different design on site.

Hi Nikhil,

I have been shown a set of Yokohamas Db series 195/60/R15 V rated tyres that are made in Japan with bill and wty. Comparing these to the CPC2 of same size which should be the tire of choice with priorities in the order below
1. Low Road Noise
2. Good grip in wet conditions
3. Comfortable drive

BTW one tire dealer whose own car has the RE88s in above size asked me not to change the RE88s coming with my Cedia as per him they are better than both the Yoko and the Conti in terms of low road noise. He is selling all three brands and this is confusing.

Kindly adviseasap, I get delivery tomorrow and need to change before the day is out. Thanks

is 195/70-14 a good upsize as well for the swift (diesel)? i am aware that the circumference difference is 28.27mm or 1.45% (over the stock 165/80-14)
reason i'm looking at this size is - greater sidewall = more comfort.

to keep this going, i am aware that bridgestones (er60) are available in this size. any clue of a drives or the xm1+?

185/70-14 is the best upsize for Swift. 195/70-14 will touch the wheel well on speedbreakers or pot holes.

As per other senior members/tech experts Swift suits well with 185/70-14

I upgraded to Michelin XM1+ 185/70-R14 six months back. I rue my decision. Although the road grip has increased but ride quality is now very poor and bone jarring. Twice I had to send my car to service center to rectify body rattles. Pl upgrade tyres in terms of size only if you really feel the need. If you drive within the city limits most of the time and the roads are not in the best of the conditions, do not do it.
