Aspect ratio has nothing to do with tyre road noise. Road noise is dependent on tyre rubber compound and on tread pattern.

Hi Gurus, I need help on Tyre upgrade, I have clocked 35K kms on Swift VDI with the stock JK tyres and planning to upsize to 15".

I am planning to go with 195-65-15 Michelin PLC, I see other spec which is 195-60-15 and would like to know how much 5mm side will impact?

Further I would like to know, some BHP mates upgraded to Honda city rims, How good is this option to save on alloy wheel cost (May be 15K)

195/65 15 seems to be a wrong upsize. My Zdi is running on 195/60 15 BS turanza's since day 1, and they are an absolute delight. Though I wish the stock alloys were a bit more wider.

The ZDi stock alloy is wide enough for a 195 cross section tyre.

I guess you are referring to offset of the rim here. Most after market alloys have a negative offset, which makes them jut out a bit. And it does add to the appeal.

The stock rims have Positive/ Zero offset. They don't extend out and are less glamorous. But they don't put undue load on the suspension components or throw up muck in the rain. Well, you win some, lose some.

No, I am not talking about the offset here. The way 195 section's sidewall juts out of the stock rim, clearly gives an impression that the stock rim should have been more wider.

So, I guessed it wrong.

But isn't the stock alloy 5.5J? 195/60 R15 should be a good fit on 5.5J.

I am aware of the Swiss knife on purchase of 4 Yokohoma tires. Are there any similar deals from other manufacturers ?

Upgraded my 5 year old stock JK tornado(Swift VXI) to Yoko A drives today(185/70 R14). After 45K and few punctures and noisy ride, decided to switch to A drives even though the tires looked OK for say another 5K or so

I think i got a competitive price of 4.2K per piece, but the dealer scraped 3 of my old tires giving reasons such as either sidewall shoulder puncture, and un-even wear. So effectively i got 200 each for two of the old tires

Got Free alignment and balancing and nitrogen filling.

Ride looks well cushioned and noise has definitely reduced. Yet to measure if the FE has any drop.

I am told that the ideal pressure is 32 PSI for all tires. Is this OK ? what is the team-bhp recommended pressure for Swifts running 185/70 R14 ?

29 PSI is the manufacturer recommendation for Swift Zxi running 185/70 tyres. I have been maintaining 30 PSI for my Yokos. I feel for 32 PSI, the ride may be stiffer unless you are fully loaded.

Even with 32 PSI or more, Ride will always be better than the JK tornadoes

But yes, i would like to stick to a best combo that offers comfort as well as FE(i drive a petrol plzzz). Let me observe this for some more time to settle into optimum PSI

You can comfortably and safely mount 195 section tyres on your current 5.5j wheels. No problem whatsoever.

I went through the forum and sought advice on tyre upgrade for my zdi. 195/60 on stock alloys is the most commonly and best recommended upgrade for the swift.

I have been running yoko a - drives 195/60 since day 1 and have now 1400 kms down. never felt any problem. i guess you can safely go for this upsize.

I upgraded by swift Zdi tyres on day 1 to 195 60 R15 profile and there are no issue till now . Since OEM alloys have less J width which has made my car more comfortable to ride on uneven roads . Swift really glides on , when you will upgrade it then you will get to know the real experience what i want to tell you . I daily drive 50 kms on highway i.e faridabad to gurgaon , it has great twisties in between and i throw the swift into corners . I just love the way it holds on to roads . I have got bridgestone turanza Er 60 , till now no road noise and very smooth , comfortable ride it has been .
