Tyre Recommendation for Sonata Embera (215/60R16)

Hi, I have Sonata Embera with Hankook tyre close to end of life. I am looking at replacement tyre for Embera.

Stock size: 215/60R16

I am considering the following options. Not sure of the availability of these tyres in Bangalore. Any recommendation of the tyres that meets following criteria: Comfort/Low Tyre Noise, Good grip on dry/wet pavement, handle potholes on bangalore roads. What would be the cost of these tyres in bangalore?

1. Yokohoma Avid Touring S
2. Michelin Primacy LC
3. Continental Premium contact 2
4. Continental Premium contact 2 ContiSeal
5. Bridestone Turanza GR-80

A pal of mine changed the stock Hankook at an odo reading of 55 K to Michelin XM1 and has been pretty happy with those for the past 2 years. I think he paid around 20 k for a set of 4.

This is your best bet; if you can source these tyres, go ahead. You might be aware of the ISI regulatory issue (search the forum) and how it's affected all tyre imports. Available inventory is the biggest concern at the moment.

You might also want to check out Yokohama ES501 tyres.

The Primacy LC is your best bet as GTO said.

I called up few Tyre dealers to get a quote for this tyre. I was told Primacy LC is not available anymore. I was suggested an equivalent tyre - Yokohama A348. Any idea how these compare to Michelin Primacy LC?

A348 is a decent tyre. It comes as OEM on the Toyota Camry. DigitalDragon is using that tyre on his SX4. You can contact him for feedback.

Vnabhi,
I found good reviews for Michelin Energy XM1+. However, I was quoted 8,900 per tyre. Looks like the tyre prices have gone through the roof, or I am being taken for a ride

Thanks, BK

I'll get back to you tomorrow, after cross-checking from him.

Prices HAVE gone through the roof. However, XM1+ in that size is not possible. Must have been MXV8.

Not much choice in size 215/60R16, so I went ahead and got Yokohama A348R today. I paid 7400 per tyre. Will post the review after using them for few weeks.

Re: Tyre Recommendation for Sonata Embera (215/60R16)

My 2008 Sonata Embera AT has the Bridgestone Turanzas and its about time to change them now.

I thought I'd need to open a new thread on Team-BHP about them and did the search for "Sonata tyre" without any great expectation of getting any matches. Was pleasantly surprised to find EXACTLY the thread I need! Team-BHP rocks!

I'll update this thread with my Embera tyre purchase experience as it unfolds. Most probably I will go again for Bridgestone or for Yokohama, since I was very happy with the S-drives (IIRC) that I put on my Esteem earlier.

BK2008, how was your experience with the Yokohama A348s?

I checked at Noida and got the following quotes for my 2008 Sonata Embera AT (it has Bridgestone Turanza 205/60/R16s):

a. Yokohama A348 215/60/R16: 8,700 per tyre
b. Hankook 215/60/R16: 8,000 per tyre
c. Bridgestone 205/60/R16: 9,000 per tyre
d. Hankook 205/60/R16: 7,200 per tyre
e. JK Tyres 205/60/R16: 6,600 per tyre

If I go for the 215/60/R16s I would need to replace all 5 tyres, but sticking with the 205s I would only replace 4 (and keep one of my current Turanzas as the spare).

Any feedback on these tyres from the rest of the members would be much appreciated.

I am pretty happy with the Yokohama A348. The ride is smooth, acceptable road noise, and has withstood frequent ride on potholed roads without damage to the side walls. BK

Re: Tyre Recommendation for Sonata Embera (215/60R16)

I finally went for the JK Vectras. I picked up a set of four 205/60/R16s for Rs.5,500 each. Fitting, balancing, alignment complimentary.

Would have gone for the Hankook or Bridgestone again, but at Rs.6,800 and Rs.8,600 each they were priced too high for me.

I just drove Noida - Pune via Rajasthan - Gujarat on the JKs and they were fine. I couldn't make out much difference in road noise as compared to my earlier Turanzas. Besides, the road conditions were good throughout. Good roads, dry conditions, and all in all I didn't have any problems with the Vectras.

I've kept one of the Turanzas as the spare.
