Drove it to a tyre shop, traded in all my tyres for five Michelin Energy XM2 185/70R14 units. Stock steelies were retained. This was when the car was new. The car felt more stable and stopped skittering about at 60-70 kmph but while cornering I could feel the tyres deflect noticeably.

Then later in Delhi when the car had done 1100 km I got a set of four alloy wheels (so no possibility of five wheel rotation anymore) by some brand called GMax. Specs are 14x6J ET+28. Yes, they stick out a bit. Handling became a little sharper as sidewall deflection reduced. 185 section tyres are the max size for 5 inch wide rims but ideal for 6 inch wide rims.
The wheels look great. Goes well with the red. The Michelin's I guess are more comfort oriented tyres. Good thing that you got rid of the stock wheels. And you can go upto 205 which is the max on 5J although it is not really recommended. I had run my tyres on stock rims for almost a year.

Thanks!

Yes, the Michelins are more comfort oriented which is also why when my brother switched from the stock 155/70R14 tyres on his Beat to the Energy XM2 in size 165/70R14, the car's sharpness in handling was dulled down more than the increase in sidewall height would cause.

I had checked rim width calculators online and found that 185 (not 205) is the maximum width for 5J rims which were the stock steelies on your car as well as mine. 205 is the maximum width for 6J rims which you and I have now. 205 on stock 5J rims is beyond specified tolerance which must have created an uneasy situation for you.

205 fit perfectly well on the stock steelies and I haven't faced any sort of issues for the one year and 12000 kms I ran on those as well. Heck I did close to 2000 kms in just over 4 days on a North KA trip last year with these on steel rims and did not face any sort of uneasiness . But yes it doesn't take away from the fact that it is not really recommended because the % error when upsizing is beyond the tolerance limit of 3%.

I guess we are going OT here.

re: The official alloy wheel show-off thread. Lets see your rims!

Posting two pictures of the alloys I saw on a Toyota Etios near my workplace when I sipping tea. Couldn't get into much details of the brand etc as the car was there for a very short while. Somehow managed to click two pictures in haste.

Liked the overall look imparted to the boring Etios by these simple looking alloys. To me they looked like Alloys from Plati or Neo. Experts pitch-in if I am wrong.

Well, at least now I have all the information I need about the size you are using and your experience with it. Yes, the 3% error is an issue here. I will keep your feedback in mind should one day I consider upsizing to 205 once my existing tyres wear out, though my low offset wheels may not allow adequate clearance from the fenders. Thank you for all the info!

They're Neo Blade in Black machined finish.

You mean replicas right? Vossen CVT starts from 19" and not 15. Sure hope they are of decent quality and material is sturdy enough.

Yes they are replicas but the quality is actually really good although it's really tough to maintain them. They catch dirt quickly and end up looking black instead of white.

Not my car.
Just a spotting 2 days back under HSR BDA Flyover.
CAR: SKODA (RAPID)

The official alloy wheel show-off thread. Lets see your rims!-alloy-skoda-rapid.jpg

What caught my attention was the thin profile tyres that made the wheel well look oversized.
