re: The official alloy wheel show-off thread. Lets see your rims!

I have realized that I am not in pursuit of those "perfect" alloys for my car. I used think that way until recently. I realized that I am wrong. You can call me crazy or mad but I don't seem to stick-on to a particular set for more than a month (or even less sometimes. I had put 14" SC5 sometime back and changed them the next day). When I see a alloy model and like it, I just want it on my car. It's addiction.

All my alloys come to the classifieds section after some days. Have lost quite a lot of money with this crazy habit.

On the number of alloys I have changed, I have lost count actually.

@Dolphin - Please keep this combo. They appear the best you have put on yet.

re: The official alloy wheel show-off thread. Lets see your rims!

At long last wait for alloys is over. My main requirement center bore should be same size as OE, didn't want to mess with rings and things. This left me with OE alloys of swift or Dzire. Then came the new Swift and the icing was the 15" dia, then it was not long ago that a member (see a page ago) changed to fatter and bigger wheels. a pm later we were in touch, shipped the wheels down to Mumbai and viola!! not driven much but will write a review of the MRF ZVTV tyres later.
This is an inside view, note the dimensions, make, inset, and the 74L8-555 and 30/2Q (dont know what it means) and mfg date

many may ask why I didn't go for 190/60/15 which is popular size with variety of choice. Vitamin M. plus I was happy with 185, on my old Yoko A drives, grip, mileage and pick up.

The alloys looks really nice .
And yes 185*65*15 looks like is a perfect upgrade size with all aspects.

Could you please confirm if those alloys are 15*5.5 or 15*6

Any idea what all tyre options we have for this 185*65*15 size.
Do we get this size in all brands or limited stuff .

Thanks, I too like the looks.
You can see the size imprinted on the alloy inside picture. it is 15 x 5 1/2 J
however tyre options are limited to a few like Apollo (found on phone)

15 inch really suits the car. Infact, i think they should go ahead and make it standard on the DZire!

How is the effect on ride quality?

Leslie,

Those Enkei wheels look awesome on your Dzire. Better than what they looked on the new Swift. Even the offset seems perfect for the car's nature.

How do you find the ZVTV compared to your earlier A drives?

Thanks guys. My long wait finally paid off with a fab set of alloys to match the car and its colour. I was always a fan of OE alloys as I guess the manufacturer spends a lot of time and effort to match the alloys to the car. BMW is a case in point. Sure MSIL too does spend some R & D funds for matching.
offset is same as old swift/dzire +45
As for ride quality i have not had much experience on tht ZVTVs but on first drives I felt it a bit smoother than the A drives and the rubber compound too felt softer (my thumb nail test )

Super looking wheels, but the stickers are a bit overdone IMO. I hope the owner drives over good roads only.

@sierrakamat Those alloys are just looking superB on already handsome Grande. BTW, when did you bought a Grande? And are those -10 offset alloys?

Ford Endeavour: tyre+rim change

Stock: 245/70R16
Vehicle purchased: 30-Jul-2011

I am a pro-OEM guy but this was too much for me to take. I literally had to slow down to 50% of whatever speed I was at, when approaching corners, long or short. There was too much tail. I also wanted better grip during braking, thereby improving braking distances. I'm also a frequent highway traveller, so these things weigh on my mind and confidence decreases.

Decision: change tyres.

Sizes considered:
255/65R16: stock rims, but this was going smaller, though a bit wider
265/65R17: bigger rims, wider, but I was a bit apprehensive of going lower profile, especially when given that the ride quality on the Endy is bumpy
265/70R15: smaller rims, wider, and bigger in diameter. Good profile. This was the stoc size of the previous versions of the Endy and also of the Pajero (current). Looked good to me.
31x10.5x15: smaller rims, wider and also much bigger in diameter. Was lured to this size by my dealer (TyreStore Chennai) for two reasons: 1) this was Bridgestone Dueller H/T D689 and 2) the Pajero sizes were manufactured only by MRF currently and he didn't have any imported stock nor was he going to import in the near future :(

Decision: 31x10.5x15
Tyres: 4 x Bridgestone Dueller H/T D689 31x10.5x15LT (what does that LT mean?)
Rims: 4 x Lenso Lethal alloys

I was going down to R15 from R16, so it might not sound like upsizing, but here's the calculation (using Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing):

The official alloy wheel show-off thread. Lets see your rims!-calcs.jpg

So it's almost like 265/75R15!

Nutshell review:
Met all my requirements as listed above. Additionally, noise levels have dropped. I didn't expect this. I was moving to a bigger tyre with more tread, hence I expected the noise levels to go up.
I can now take those corners in the city with ease and speed. I am also more relaxed now when taking those highway corners at 100+ speeds.
I just finished a 1200 kms trip down south TN and man, the rains were HEAVY and CRAZY. The tyres showed impeccable grip on the wet highways. Downside (not for me though, but I still feel about it), the cars coming behind me are in for a spray and a splash!

All in all, I'm happy about this upgrade, or upsize, whatever!

PS: how much ever wider or taller we go, why do the tyres always appear puny, tiny to our eyes? Guess this is in TBHPians'/petrolheads' blood!

Bro - Those are absolutely WICKED!!! I love the tread design - sand, road, slush and stones will be devoured easily.

As for your question, LT means "Light Truck".

The alloys are nice and gives character to the wheels themselves. I'm kinda getting a balloon tyre feel with this combination.

Dude, please do not let this beast stay bored on roads. I suggest taking him to places that people fear to tread...

Can you provide a cost breakup for the Rims as well as the tires?
