That's a good idea! I hadn't thought of that and yes, yellow would look cool. Will get it done soon!

re: The official alloy wheel show-off thread. Lets see your rims!

Don't know if this is the right thread for this, but can't seem to find another one. Mods, plesae merge this with the right thread if required.

So here goes: Does anyone know where to get OEM alloys painted to a gun metal shade in Mumbai?
How much would something like this cost?
How long does it last for?
Is there any special care required to maintain the colour?

Would really appreciate it if someone can use a photo editing software to show me how the new Polo Highline in Night Blue shade would look with gun metal shaded OEM alloys. Thanks guys.

Well, I haven't got delivery of the car as yet, so that's why no pictures. I've attached a picture posted in another thread. This should help.

From a recent drive (alloys aren't all that visible though due to the time the pic was taken)

What size are the wheels/tyres? How does the ride feel on Kerala roads?

Thanks BLR!

The wheels are 215/45/17. This car is primarily used in Bangalore. Feels a bit stiff & unsettling on the roads here.

Thanks!

I live overseas now and planning to move back to Bangalore for a few years at least. Have booked a Polo TSI to be my ride to start with and was thinking of getting a few items including wheels/tires from here. Was debating between a 205/50/16 and a 215/45/17. The TD felt ok with the stock 15 wheels but would like it to be a bit firmer than that. Was worried about the 17 being too bumpy and you helped settle that one debate. Thanks once again!

And while at it, would you have any suggestions for anything that I may get from here for the car? I am in the US, by the way.

Please check on whether its possible to get the tires. Had read somewhere on the forum that getting tires is not an easy task, something to do with the ISI mark or something, not sure what exactly.

Hey, thanks! Haven't thought about that.

If true, then it is strange that I am allowed to import a car with tyres on it, but not the tyres alone!

Does anyone on the forum has any insight that can be shared?

Yep! You are right. A couple of hours of Google search brought up document F.No. 528/109/2011-STO (TU) which says that import of NEW tyres without BIS mark is not allowed!

Thanks! You saved me some headache/heartache/money. Would not have thought about that because we have tons of alloy wheels and auto accessories being brought in from abroad, which obviously lack the BIS mark. Appears tyres are an exception in order to protect the local industry. So, I will buy tyres and wheels locally.

Considering there is no way to differentiate between an imported Michelin/Pirelli/Continental and a cheap Chinese tyre from a government policy perspective, it is good that they put some quality standards for imports. The BIS requirement came after the cheap and low quality Chinese tyres started hitting the market. At least, that was the reason mentioned when they implemented this requirement from what I recall.

A cheap Chinese tyre bursting while running on highway could be a danger to the passengers of that vehicle as well as fellow road users. Once this rule was implemented, it was difficult to procure Michelins for the next few months but I assume Michelin got the certification done soon enough since the availability was back to normal.

EDIT: Just curious, what is the price of a 205 or 215 tyre in US?
