Hi Alias,

How is the ride quality on 17" ? I am presently running on 15" and planning to upgrade to 16" or 17". Eventhough i must say that 17" look absolutely awesome especially the design that you have; i am worried about the ride quality and chances of the rims, tyres and suspension getting damaged in an event of hitting a pothole which are all over the place in Mumbai :-) Also, what are the tyre specs you are running on?

I upsized my Lancer to 15" rims and Michelin tyres today.
Wheel : 15", HiJoin Racing H412
Tyres : Michelin 195/60R15 MXV8

Initially planned for 205/55R15 but Michelin has discontinued this in MXV8 range.

Here are a few snaps.

Congrats lancer_rit. Where did you get the tyres from? I hope it doesn't foul with the body on full lock or when fully loaded in the rear.

Sorry to say but that's really a wrong size for the Lancer. The size should have been 195/55-15.

Thanks man. My Lancer is 5 years old but still like it as much as when I had owned it 6 months :-) I was not planning to buy black machined alloys but everything I otherwise chose were either fouling up the offset or discontinued or not avail :-( In the end, I felt these wheels look good with my car color.

vid6639, thanks. I researched this topic on and off over 6 months. By OD, the correct upsize is 195/60R15 with an OD error of 0.79% (wrt 175/80R13 stock), while 195/55R15 has an OD error of -2.41%. So, I hope by choosing a decent offset on the alloys (ET40 for OEM ET46), I should be quite safe (esp since I didn't put 205 tyres).
However, I only drove 35km with light load (5 km with 2 persons), so will watch out for this. In the T-BHP forum, I found many people being fine with 195/60R15 and 205/55R15 while others faced issues and recommended 195/55R15 and 205/50R15, so had to finally jump one way.

I got the tyres of Sai Iyengar finally. He has setup a new shop on Indiranagar double road (in between ESI hospital and Subway location) with new wheel balancing and alignment equipment. The new location is much better than CMH road and bigger. And the user experience definitely beats having to brave out on JC Road (where I had also hunted for Aura and Apollo alloys and 205/55 tyres)

The alloys look very good lancer_rit. Actually the OD as you say will not change much. The problem is not the OD but the rim width. 175/80-13 is the stock size on 5J rims. When you go to 195's you rim width increases to 6J or 6.5J which actually causes the problem. As a result you have to go one size down to compensate for increase in rim width.

Nonetheless what's important is that your happy with the purchase and have no problems.

Cheers.

I see what you mean here. My alloys are 15Jx6.5 in place of 13Jx5. I did try full steering turn and checked the clearances at the installation. What I have to try out is the fully loaded scenario (and keep fingers crossed that I have the right offset, tyre size, clearance)
With an ET40 instead of 46, I reduced 6mm from the 19mm the wheel comes closer to the suspension (1.5 * 2.54 * 10 /2). So, I am hoping this helps here.

BTW, ET46 is what I found in the Lancer's user manual. I read here (somewhere) that the offset is 38 or 40. If the latter's the case, then I need all the luck !!

Actually if you reduce the offset i.e. bring it closer to the hub, that's what will cause a problem on full lock. The wheel will be closer so more chance of touching. Also with a wider rim and closer to the suspension you are also looking at a potential of the tyre touching the springs (but that's on a extreme wrong upsize).

With the SFXi 14" alloys and 195/60-14 the tyre just brushes the plastic wheel well on the inside. With 195/65-14 it pushes the plastic bit in hard and later on the plastic bit disintegrates.

I guess with your different offset and tyre size it may have just worked and luckily it isn't touching. Some alloys it touches and with some it doesn't. Besides the Lancer's tyre upsize is really confusing with so many options that fit in the car.

Hey Naveen,

The rims look awesome and very muscular on your car. I use 28PSI both long and in the city (single or fully loaded), 30PSI feels a bit bumpy ride.

Here are some snaps of my rims after a paintjob. The shade is a mix of Maroon and dark purple with Matt Silver.

Those look like unidirectional hankook ventus tyres. If they are Hankook Ventus then you have put them on wrongly on both the right side tyres.

Wrong directions Satya. Change madi.

ps: car looks hot. Pic needs to be from better digicam for the colour to show properly not from moto ming. Grill I don't like so much with that triangle patters. Try a honeycomb pattern.

I don't think the tyres are not undirectional, its the Hankook Ventus K105

Even I dont like the Grills but my painter did it, and now I have to keep it on the car for some time.

Satya your alloys look like a coaxial's grill

I have the same opinion as the others regarding the grill. A honeycomb would've been better.

Your Ventus is an assymetrical tyre and it's unidirectional.
