Re: MRF ZLO Performance Tyres

Changed the tyres of my Punto to MRF ZLO today (185/70 R14). Paid 3800 per tyre but have to get the alignment and balancing done outside since the shop do not have alignment and balancing facilities.

Re: MRF ZLO Performance Tyres

After 2 and a half years and 40,000 kms the treads are now running out. They may have life left for another 5-7 thousand kms till the treads reach the treads reach TWI mark.

I am experiencing a lot of noise from 70 - 100 kmph speeds. The noise reduces considerably once I reach 110 kmph. Also they are still very silent till 60kmph. Can this noise be coming from the tyres or shall I get my wheel bearings checked?

Re: MRF ZLO Performance Tyres

Dear All,

This is my personal experience with the ZLOs. As with any review, your opinion might be drastically different.

I have a Civic with Tein Suspension and till recently running 205/65-15 PLCs. They were replaced with the ZLOs a couple of months back and I have done very little running. Hardly 4k kms in the last 2.5 months. But that includes about 4 trips from BLR to Madras and back.

The latest was today. Returning from Chennai, the roads were devoid of traffic and I was maintaining a good speed.

There were occasions I had to brake hard and the ZLOs were just fantastic. Strong, steady and nary a squeal or wiggle.

Some of the long sweeping corners were taken at highway speeds and the ZLOs were just phenomenal. Extremely stable and minimal squealing but not budging even a mm from my directed path. I simply couldnt be happier.

The ride comfort is quite nice. DNot Michelin PLC level but good enough.

Noise is a little bit on the higher side but I am not sure if this was only due to the tyres or wind noise. I am a terrible judge of noise. I came the entire way blasting Metallica in my car and barely heard any noise.

Overall, I've used CPC2, AD07, PLC, MXV8 and ZLO on this car. The AD07s are of course a league apart. But the ZLO is definitely the second best tyre on this car by far for grip and high speed driving.

The last time I came driving from Chennai, it was in heavy rain (remember the heavy rains in Chennai in October?) and the ZLOs didnt give me any reason to worry (but then, to be fair, neither did the PLCs or the CPC2s. The CPC2s actually were better in the rain than in the dry).

I've seen ZLOs in 205/55-15 on a Polo GT TDi (remapped) and a Rapid. Both of them were very happy on the road but not happy on the race track. On a hot day at the MMST track, the tyres kind of melted and the Polo owner was unhappy as he lost a few thousand rupees due to that. When the Rapid owner checked, (Diesel_convert on the forum), he realised that the tyres had a temperature rating of B. Which isnt great.

I have not tested these tyres at those temperatures and on the track yet.

But for road use, these are simply amazing when you factor in the price. Far cheaper than any Michelin or Yokohama but much much grippier.

Could be tyre noise. I sat in a friend's car and he had the same issue. Noise only at certain speeds.

Re: MRF ZLO Performance Tyres

Almost sold on the ZSport, the tyre looks fabulous. A dealer here at Pune is quoting Rs5400 per tyre. May get them fitted on my 1.6S. It will be an upsize from 195/55/R15 to 205/55/R15.

Re: MRF ZLO Performance Tyres

We have got MRF ZLOs in two cars - Polo 1.2 Petrol 2010 and Swift VDi 2008. The size is same in both the cars - 185/70/14. We have witnessed a peculiar problem with both the cars after tire change. If you do a little left/right at over 120, the car fish tails.

Regarding the Polo, it is mostly driven very sedately and the ZLOs were an upgrade from stock 175 Apollo Acelere. Compared to Apollos, the braking of the car improved significantly, the ride improved, tire noise reduced, cornering improved and high speed stability improved. These tires in every way are better than Apollos.

However, when we compare them with the Yokohama A-Drives 185/70/14 that they replaced, the braking isnt as good as A-drives, the cornering isnt as good as A-Drives and high speed stability isnt as good as A-Drives. There is no noticeable difference in Road noise and ride quality. The swift which is driven mostly with a heavy foot is retrained ever since it got ZLOs (5k kms). We are planning to get the ZLOs changed. It will be an upgrade to 15 or 16 inch size with Yokohamas or Hankook. Most probably AVS dbs in 195/60/15.

We got the tires for 3700 each in August 2014.

Let them stay for a while. The issue will go away after 1000km.

Re: MRF ZLO Performance Tyres

Snapdeal has lisiting of set of 4(195.60.15) for 17.1k. Good deal? Prices have gone down or something fishy with deal? Same seller has another set for 17.2k others are asking 18.5k upwards.
I need to buy a set.

These would probably be very old tyres. A friend bought tyres from Snapdeal for cheap the other day and he got 1.5 year old tyres.

IMO I'd just fork up extra money and get fresh tyres from your favourite tyre dealer. You might even get free wheel balancing, etc while you'd get charged anyway if you take your own tyres.

From a preliminary enquiry, the market price should be anywhere between 17K-20K.
